On a Galaxy phone, open Settings > Display to look for both controls. Turn on Accidental touch protection to reduce touch input when the phone is in a dark place such as a pocket or bag. Turn on Touch sensitivity when a screen protector is fitted and taps are not registering reliably. They address different problems, and Touch sensitivity can make an unprotected screen respond too easily.
Which setting should you change?

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Series User Manual defines Accidental touch protection as: “Set the device to prevent the screen from detecting touch input when it is in a dark place, such as a pocket or bag.” That describes its intended use; it is not a guarantee that every unintended interaction will be prevented.
How to find and change the settings
- Open Settings on the phone.
- Tap Display.
- Turn on Accidental touch protection if you want to limit pocket- or bag-related input.
- Turn on Touch sensitivity if a fitted screen protector is causing taps to register weakly or inconsistently.
- If there is no protective film and touch response is too sensitive, turn Touch sensitivity off.
The Galaxy S23 Series manual places both controls under Display, but menus and feature availability can differ by model and software version. If a control is missing, check the manual for the exact Galaxy model rather than assuming the phone is faulty.
If touch response is still unreliable
Changing a setting will not correct every screen-protector or accessory problem. Samsung Support Canada identifies trapped dust or air beneath a protector, multiple protector layers, and edges that are peeling as conditions that can affect touchscreen operation. Third-party accessories may also affect touch response.

- Check that the protector is designed for the exact Galaxy model and is fitted flat, without trapped dust or air.
- Remove stacked films if more than one screen protector is installed.
- Check for peeling around the edges; a loose or poorly fitted protector may interfere with input.
- If the phone has no protective film and is responding too easily, disable Touch sensitivity first.
- If the problem continues, consult Samsung support or the manual for the exact device. These settings are not evidence that a display is damaged or that a particular accessory is the cause.
Touch sensitivity is intended to compensate for a screen-protector use case, not to make buying or installing a protector necessary. If you choose to use one, select a product specified for your exact model; Samsung’s guidance makes fit and installation relevant to touch operation.

The cited Galaxy S23 Series manual is an example of the menu path, not proof that all Galaxy phones use the same labels or include both controls. For another Galaxy model, use its model-specific manual or Samsung support guidance.
