Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If Wi-Fi is slow on your Android phone, first confirm that you’re connected to the right network and check whether the signal improves nearer the router. Then compare with mobile data or another Wi-Fi network to narrow down where the problem may be. A connection reset is another built-in option, but it ends an active phone or video call. Menu names vary by phone and Android version, so treat the paths below as examples.
1. Confirm the Wi-Fi connection and check the signal
Open Settings and look for Network & internet or Connections, then Internet or Wi-Fi. Make sure Wi-Fi is on and that the phone is connected to the network you intend to use. Google’s Android Wi-Fi troubleshooting steps start with checking the connection and signal.
Look at the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar. If it appears weak, move closer to the router and check whether the signal improves. Google notes that a fuller Wi-Fi icon indicates a stronger signal. A stronger signal is useful evidence, but by itself it does not establish the cause of slow service.
2. Compare Wi-Fi with other connections
Restart the phone, then check whether the problem remains. If it does, briefly switch to mobile data and try the same page or service. If other Wi-Fi networks are available, try connecting to one of them. On Google’s documented interface, you can choose another listed network through Settings or the Internet panel; the exact controls may differ on your phone.

Use these comparisons to narrow the scope of the issue, not to declare a cause from one test:
- If the same service is slow on Wi-Fi and mobile data, the issue may not be limited to the Wi-Fi connection.
- If the phone works better on another Wi-Fi network, the difference points toward the original network rather than proving a particular fault.
- If the signal improves nearer the router, location is relevant to the Wi-Fi connection you are testing.
Google’s Android connection troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting the device and comparing Wi-Fi with mobile data as diagnostic steps.

3. Reset the Internet connection if needed
On the Google-documented Android interface, swipe down from the top of the screen, touch and hold Internet, then tap Reset. This resets the phone’s Internet connection; it is a more disruptive step than checking signal or trying another network.
Do not reset during a phone or video call: Google warns that resetting the connection will end the call. See Google’s instructions for connecting to Wi-Fi networks on Android for the documented steps.

4. Don’t mistake data and privacy controls for speed settings
Treat as metered
If a Wi-Fi network has a data limit, Android’s Treat as metered option can help control data used by downloads and apps. Google describes it as a data-use control, not a way to make Wi-Fi faster. Its location and availability can vary by device.
Private DNS
Google recommends leaving Private DNS enabled by default. On devices that expose the setting, its options can include Off, Automatic or a provider hostname. Private DNS protects DNS questions and answers; Google does not describe it as a general Wi-Fi speed fix. Avoid switching it off routinely as a speed remedy.

- Dual Band WiFi Extender: Up to 44% more bandwidth than single band N300 WiFi extenders. Boost Internet WiFi coverage up to 1200 square feet and connects up to 30 devices(2.4GHz: 300Mbps; 5GHz: 433Mbps)
For details on both controls, see Google’s guide to advanced network settings on Android. Search Settings for “Wi-Fi,” “Internet” or “Private DNS” if the example path does not match your phone.

Home Wi-Fi
If the problem appears limited to your home network, check the router manual for restart instructions. Google gives a general example: unplug the router, wait 30 seconds, reconnect it and allow it to restart. If the connection is still slow, contact your internet service provider or the person who manages the Wi-Fi network. See Google’s Android internet troubleshooting guidance.

Device-specific trouble
If the steps do not match your handset or the issue appears limited to that device, consult the phone manufacturer’s instructions or contact its support team. Android menus and available network options differ by device and version; Google also advises contacting the manufacturer when device-specific troubleshooting is needed. See Google’s guidance for speeding up a slow Android device.
