Free X
Free access is the sensible starting point if you mainly read and post without needing subscriber-only creation tools, the checkmark, or paid-tier ad benefits. X says everyone can read longer posts, but only subscribers can create them.
Basic
Basic includes creation and organization features such as editing eligible posts, longer posts, longer video uploads, text formatting, bookmark folders, and custom app icons. X says subscribers can edit eligible posts during a limited one-hour window and create posts up to 25,000 characters. These are X’s stated product limits; video limits and feature availability depend on platform.

Premium
Premium adds a review for the blue checkmark on eligible accounts, approximately 50% fewer ads in the For You and Following timelines, and features that include applications for creator monetization programs, ID verification, and Media Studio. The ad reduction applies to those two timelines, not every placement on X.
Premium+
Premium+ adds a broader ad-free experience and further tools. X describes it as ad-free across most areas, while noting that sponsored content may occasionally appear. Its feature listing also includes Grok-related benefits and X Pro access; availability can depend on location or platform.
How much does X Premium cost?
X’s FAQ lists these starting web prices. They are not universal quotes: X says prices vary by location and applicable tax, and directs customers to check web or mobile app pricing for their region. Confirm the recurring price and billing period shown at checkout before subscribing.

What does the blue checkmark mean?
X says the blue checkmark indicates an active X Premium subscription and that the account meets its eligibility requirements. It does not represent the older standard of being active, notable, and authentic, and it is not the same as ID verification. X offers ID verification as a distinct feature and review.

To qualify for a checkmark review, X lists requirements including a complete profile, activity within the past 30 days, a confirmed phone number, no recent profile changes, and no signs of deception or platform manipulation. X reviews applications, and review can take several business days. A profile photo, display name, or username change can temporarily remove the checkmark while X reviews the account; X also reserves the right to remove it under its terms and rules. How much advertising do paid tiers remove?
Premium’s stated benefit is approximately 50% fewer ads in the For You and Following timelines. Promotions can still appear elsewhere on X, so this is a reduction in two specific timelines, not a sitewide ad-free promise. Premium+ is described as ad-free across most areas, but sponsored content may still appear occasionally. Who should pay for X Premium?
Choose Basic if you regularly need its creation tools
If you often want to edit eligible posts, publish longer posts, upload longer videos, or use other Basic features, compare those specific tools with the local recurring price. If you would rarely use them, the entry tier may not add enough to your experience.

Consider Premium for its particular account and creator features
Premium may suit an account that values a checkmark review, fewer ads in the two named timelines, or access to creator-related features. Applying to a creator program does not guarantee approval or earnings; those programs have separate eligibility conditions. The checkmark itself is a subscription and eligibility signal, not independent proof of identity or notability.
Consider Premium+ only if its additional benefits matter to you
For someone who uses X frequently and values fewer interruptions across most areas or the additional tools, Premium+ may be worth comparing against its substantially higher listed starting price. Its ad-free description still allows occasional sponsored content.
Keep free X if paid features do not solve a real need
If you do not expect to use paid-only tools, do not value the checkmark, and are comfortable with the free experience, the feature descriptions provide no specific reason to subscribe.

Is X Premium worth it?
There is no universal value-for-money answer: the useful comparison is your local recurring cost against the features you expect to use. Before choosing, check the live price for your purchase channel, whether the feature you want is available on your device and in your location, what placements still contain ads, and whether you meet the checkmark review requirements. This is a decision based on X’s stated features and pricing, not an independent value test.
