Check the exact graphics-card model and the rest of your build before buying: partner cards can use different power and connector arrangements.
How much system RAM does an RTX 2080 Ti PC need?
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2080 Ti User Guide lists 8 GB of system memory as the minimum and 16 GB as recommended. For a straightforward gaming build, 16 GB is the clearest manufacturer-backed target in the available documentation.
The card’s 11 GB of GDDR6 is video memory, or VRAM, used by the graphics card. It is separate from system RAM and does not replace the memory installed in the PC. NVIDIA lists the VRAM and system-memory recommendations separately on its RTX 2080 Ti specifications page.
The guide specifies memory capacity, not a universally compatible RAM generation or kit. Check the motherboard and processor specifications before choosing memory. The cited NVIDIA documentation establishes a 16 GB recommendation; it does not establish a universal 32 GB requirement or compare memory needs across current games and workloads.

What power supply does an RTX 2080 Ti need?
NVIDIA’s guide specifies a 650 W or greater system power supply and two 8-pin PCIe supplementary power connectors. These are the documented baseline requirements, not a guarantee that every 650 W PSU will suit every build: the unit must have the required connectors, and its capacity must account for the CPU and other components as well as the graphics card.
NVIDIA lists the RTX 2080 Ti’s graphics-card power at 250 W and gives a 650 W recommended system supply on its product specifications page. The page notes that PSU recommendations are based on a PC configuration and that a pre-built system may need less depending on its configuration. Treat 650 W as the manufacturer’s baseline for planning, not a precise calculation for every combination of processor, drives, fans, or overclocking.

Why the exact RTX 2080 Ti model matters
Board-partner versions can differ in power consumption and the connectors they require. Two MSI models illustrate why it is worth checking the specification for the exact card rather than relying only on the GPU name:
| RTX 2080 Ti model | Card power | PCIe power connectors | Recommended system PSU |
|---|---|---|---|
| MSI VENTUS GP OC | 250 W | Two 8-pin | 650 W |
| MSI GAMING Z TRIO | 300 W | Two 8-pin plus one 6-pin | 650 W |
These figures come from MSI’s VENTUS GP OC specification and GAMING Z TRIO specification. They are examples of model variation, not specifications for every RTX 2080 Ti card.

What to check before buying RAM or a PSU
- RAM: Plan around 16 GB of system memory, then confirm the kit’s compatibility with your motherboard and processor.
- PSU capacity: Start with NVIDIA’s 650 W-or-greater baseline, then account for the complete system configuration.
- PSU connectors: Confirm the unit has the PCIe connectors required by your exact card. A 650 W label alone does not establish connector availability.
- Card specification: Look up the precise board-partner model. Its power draw and connector arrangement may differ from NVIDIA’s reference baseline.
