Short answer: The Gears of War: E-Day keyboard and mouse are themed versions of 8BitDo’s Retro 87 keyboard and Retro R8 mouse. Their clearest established difference from the Xbox Edition versions is the design: E-Day uses a battle-worn Gears of War look, while the Xbox Edition draws on the original Xbox’s transparent-green styling. The available sources do not establish that E-Day is a technical upgrade.
8BitDo’s shop lists the E-Day keyboard and mouse as separate purchases for $119.99 and $59.99 USD, respectively, with expected shipping on October 30, 2026. These are shop-listed details checked on October 4, 2026, not confirmation of fulfillment or availability in every region. 8BitDo’s shop
What is different between the E-Day and standard 8BitDo models?
The E-Day products belong to the same product families as the Xbox Edition: the keyboard is a Retro 87, and the mouse is a Retro R8. The documented distinction is primarily their licensed appearance, not a demonstrated change in performance or build quality.
| Product | Gears of War: E-Day edition | Xbox Edition | What the comparison establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keyboard | Retro 87 with battle-worn Gears of War: E-Day styling | Retro 87 with crystal-green styling inspired by the original Xbox | Different theme; a complete switch and component comparison is not available. |
| Mouse | Retro R8 with Gears of War: E-Day styling | Retro R8 with transparent-green original Xbox styling | Different theme; detailed technical parity across editions is not established. |
Xbox Wire described the Xbox Edition as officially licensed Xbox peripherals and reported its original estimated retail prices in December 2024. Those historical prices are not a current street-price comparison. Xbox Wire’s 2024 gift guide

What features are reported for the E-Day keyboard and mouse?
Pure Xbox’s September 2026 launch report relays the following E-Day specifications. Treat these as reported announcement details, not independent test results or proof that the Xbox Edition has different components. Pure Xbox’s E-Day announcement report
Retro 87 keyboard
- Cloud Gray tactile switches co-developed with HUANO and a hot-swappable PCB.
- RGB lighting, n-key rollover, and programmable Dual Super Buttons.
- Bluetooth LE 5.3, 2.4 GHz wireless, and wired USB connection modes.
Retro R8 mouse
- PAW 3395 sensor, six DPI levels, programmable buttons, and left- or right-hand switching.
- Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless, and wired USB connection modes.
- A reported 450 mAh rechargeable battery. The launch report relays claimed battery life of 100 hours over Bluetooth or 26–105 hours over 2.4 GHz, plus a 2.5-hour charging time; these figures are claims, not measured results.
Xbox Wire confirms features for the Xbox Edition models including programmable Super Buttons, RGB lighting, and an independent control panel on the keyboard, along with programmable buttons, an integrated charging dock, and ambidextrous support on the mouse. It does not provide a full component-by-component comparison, so feature overlap should not be read as proof that every specification is identical. Xbox Wire’s 2024 gift guide

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which edition should you choose?
Choose by design preference and the features you need, rather than assuming E-Day performs better. The E-Day look references the battle-worn world of Gears of War; the Xbox Edition’s transparent-green appearance is a nod to the original Xbox. The 8BitDo homepage also presents a separate E-Day charging dock, so do not assume the keyboard-and-mouse listings include it. 8BitDo
