Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteOn a Pixel 6a or later, go to Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimization, turn on Use charging optimization, then choose Limit to 80%. Google lists Pixel 6a and later as supporting the setting.
Turn on the 80% charge limit
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Battery, then Battery health.
- Tap Charging optimization.
- Turn on Use charging optimization.
- Select Limit to 80%.
These menu labels and steps are from Google’s Pixel battery guidance. If the option is missing, check that your phone is a Pixel 6a or later and follow the nested Battery health menu path.
Choose between the 80% limit and Adaptive Charging
Charging optimization offers two choices. Pick the one that fits how much charge you typically need each day.
| Setting | Charge target | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Limit to 80% | Limits the target to 80% | Google says this is suitable if you usually finish the day with charge remaining; it prioritizes long-term battery health. |
| Adaptive Charging | Charges to 100% | For when you need a full charge. It aims to finish shortly before your usual unplug time, reducing the time the phone remains fully charged. |
Google says Adaptive Charging takes about 14 days to learn your routine. A change in habits, such as travel, can affect whether it activates. These are operational descriptions from Google, not independent battery-longevity test results.

- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment

Why a Pixel may still reach 100%
A full charge does not necessarily mean the 80% setting has stopped working. Google says the phone completes a full charge every tenth cycle so it can keep its battery-capacity readings accurate. When the screen reaches 100% during that cycle, leave the phone connected for at least 30 minutes to complete the process.
Google also describes a separate automatic battery-protection behavior on Pixel 3 and later running Android 11 or later. Under sustained charging and high-temperature or long-duration conditions, charging may be temporarily limited to about 70–80%. This automatic protection is distinct from the manually selected 80% limit.

What the 80% setting does—and does not—guarantee
Google describes the limit as a way to help extend battery lifespan, not as a promise of a specific increase in battery life. Its published operational guidance does not quantify a longevity improvement. The setting changes the charging target; it does not ensure the phone will always stop at exactly 80%, given the full-charge cycle described above.
