PS5 Pro support adds Sony’s PSSR image-upscaling option, but the game does not require a Pro: it is a PS5 exclusive, and Sony has also announced a QSSR graphics option for the base PS5. The bigger buying question is whether you want directed action and spectacle more than open-world exploration or especially varied combat.
What kind of game is Marvel’s Wolverine?
Marvel’s Wolverine is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure for PS5. PlayStation says it is not an open-world game. Instead, Logan’s story moves through locations that include the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo and Madripoor, with close-range claw combat, stealth and his heightened senses at the center of play. Sony announced its worldwide launch for September 15, 2026.

That structure makes it a better fit for players who want a directed campaign than for those expecting a large map to explore at their own pace. The appeal is the Wolverine fantasy, a Marvel story and cinematic presentation—not an open-world format.
What does PS5 Pro add?
PlayStation says the game uses PS5 Pro’s PSSR upscaling for image quality and frame rates. That confirms Pro-specific support, but the official materials do not establish a controlled performance comparison between PS5 Pro and the base PS5. The game is not a Pro-only release.

On October 1, 2026, Sony announced a QSSR graphics option for the base PS5 version. Sony describes QSSR as improving image detail and stability. Insomniac’s Head of Technology, Mike Fitzgerald, said the option adds “more pixel-level clarity and stability” to environments. Those are Sony’s and Insomniac’s descriptions, not independent test results.
T3 reviewer Rik Henderson reported 30 and 60 fps picture options, plus a 40 fps option when using a 120 Hz television. Treat that as one reviewer’s account of the options on his setup, not a guaranteed result for every display or configuration. If you already own a Pro, its confirmed PSSR support is a presentation benefit; it is not a reason to buy the console just for this game.
Is the story and combat worth the asking price?
The strongest case is for a player who values Logan’s story, visual spectacle and a focused action campaign. Reviews offer a useful caution about the combat. Creative Bloq’s Ian Dean praised the story and visuals but found the combat shallow and repetitive, as well as some sections overly guided. T3’s Rik Henderson emphasized the Pro presentation. These are individual assessments, not a universal verdict.
If you want deep combat systems or broad exploration, the concerns Dean raises are relevant reasons to wait for a sale. If a cinematic, directed Wolverine story is what you want, the game may be a better fit even if its combat loop is not your main attraction. The PlayStation Store showed a user rating of 4.68 out of 5 from 58,749 ratings when checked on October 4, 2026; that is a changing store snapshot, not a critic score or a prediction of your experience.

Which edition should you buy?
The US PlayStation Store listed the Standard Edition at $69.99 and Digital Deluxe at $79.99 when checked on October 4, 2026. Prices vary by territory and can change.
