Choose Marvel’s Wolverine if you want to play as Logan, focus on close-range claw combat and stealth, and follow a story about his past. That recommendation follows the games’ official descriptions—not a hands-on comparison.
How the two games differ
The main choice is between two distinct Marvel hero fantasies: Spider-Man’s movement through a broad city and two playable heroes, or Wolverine’s close-up, physical combat as Logan.

Choose Spider-Man 2 for movement and two playable heroes
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 puts Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the same PS5 game, with the option to switch between them while exploring Marvel’s New York. The official game pages emphasize fast web-swinging, Web Wings and each hero’s distinct abilities. Its settings include Brooklyn, Queens and Coney Island alongside other parts of the city. That makes it the more natural pick if the appeal is covering ground quickly, seeing New York from above, or moving between two Spider-Man characters rather than committing to one hero. Venom is a central threat in the story, according to Sony’s game description.

Choose Wolverine for a closer, more physical fight
Marvel’s Wolverine centers on Logan. Sony describes combat built around claws and melee, with stealth and Wolverine’s heightened senses also part of play. The story follows Logan as he seeks answers about his past, and the official store description places his journey in the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo and Madripoor. Insomniac creative director Marcus Smith contrasted the intended feel of the two games in a PlayStation interview: “So, while Spider-Man is an open-world game, he’s so tied to New York, with Wolverine everything is closer, more visceral, more contact with the world, more grounded.” That describes the creative distinction; it is not a claim that Wolverine has a particular world structure. Accessibility and PS5 features
The Wolverine store page lists adjustable difficulty, high-contrast visuals, visual comfort settings, alternatives for audio cues, simplified quick-time events and adjustable game speed. Spider-Man 2 also lists accessibility features, but the available descriptions do not establish a complete feature-by-feature comparison. No required order is established by the official descriptions cited here. The games share Insomniac Games and Marvel branding, but that does not make Marvel’s Wolverine a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or prove that one is necessary to understand the other. If you simply prefer release order, play Spider-Man 2 first: it arrived in 2023, three years before Wolverine.
What sales figures do—and do not—tell you
Sony Interactive Entertainment reported that Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games had sold more than 50 million copies combined since 2018 in 2026. That is a franchise-level total, not a sales figure for Spider-Man 2 alone, and it is not a direct comparison with Wolverine. It does not establish which game you will enjoy more.
