Firefox for Android is the better-supported choice if you need browser extensions. Mozilla documents an Android add-ons catalog, installation steps, and extension controls, although it warns that some add-ons are incompatible. Brave’s official extension instructions describe desktop Chrome Web Store use, not Android; an Android-specific Brave Community response says mobile extensions are not supported, but that is community guidance rather than a formal product specification.

How extension support works in Firefox for Android
Find and install an add-on
Mozilla documents two ways to find Android add-ons: browse the Firefox for Android add-ons catalog or open the browser’s Add-ons/Extensions Manager. During installation, review the requested access and confirm whether to install. Check the specific add-on’s listing and requirements: Mozilla warns that some extensions may not be compatible with Firefox for Android, so desktop availability alone does not establish Android compatibility.
Check permissions and manage installed extensions
Firefox’s Extensions Manager provides access to an extension’s settings, details, and permissions. You can disable or remove an extension there. Mozilla also says Firefox updates add-ons to compatible versions when available. Before installing, consider whether the access requested makes sense for the feature you want; the prompt is an opportunity to assess what the add-on can access.
Allow an extension in private browsing when needed
Installed or migrated extensions are disabled in private browsing by default. To use one there, change the private-browsing setting for that particular extension. This is separate from installing it: an extension available in a normal tab will not necessarily run in a private tab until you enable the option.

Where the Extensions panel appears
Mozilla says that starting with Firefox for Android version 141, the redesigned menu is included automatically in general-release builds. Its Extensions panel lists installed extensions, suggests extensions when none are installed, and links to discovery and management. That interface helps you reach extensions; it does not mean every add-on works on Android.
What the available evidence says about Brave for Android
Brave’s Help Center explains installing extensions from the Chrome Web Store with an “Add to Brave” control and desktop-style navigation such as “More Tools → Extensions.” Those instructions support Brave’s general extension offering, but they do not document that workflow on Android. Brave’s 2025 extension explainer likewise gives general Chrome Web Store guidance without Android-specific installation steps: Can I use extensions in Brave?

An Android-specific Brave Community thread contains a response saying mobile Brave does not support extensions. Because this is community guidance rather than an official Android product manual, treat it as a report of the stated support position, not as a guarantee about future releases. The practical distinction is that Firefox has a documented Android catalog and workflow, while the reviewed Brave sources do not document third-party Android extension installation.

- Look up the exact add-on in Mozilla’s Android catalog. Confirm it is offered for Firefox for Android and that its listed features meet your need; do not rely only on its desktop listing.
- Review its requested permissions before installing. Firefox presents requested access during installation and exposes permission controls in the Extensions Manager.
- Decide whether it must run in private browsing. If so, check the extension’s individual private-browsing setting in Firefox; it is off by default.
- If you are considering Brave, verify Android support for that add-on and workflow directly. The cited Brave installation article is for desktop-style use, and the Android-specific answer is from the community rather than formal product documentation.
There is no sourced comparative Android extension count or compatibility percentage for these browsers in the cited material. A desktop catalog size would not answer whether the extension you need works on a phone.
