If DLSS or an upscaling option is missing in The Witcher 3 on PC, first identify the exact setting and how you launched the game. The Next-Gen update’s DLSS features are associated with its DirectX 12 version, while DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Frame Generation have different hardware requirements. Work through the checks below in order; the right fix depends on your game build, storefront, launch API, and GPU.

Identify which option is missing

“DLSS is missing,” “DLSS is greyed out,” and “upscaling option is gone” can refer to different settings. Check the exact label in the graphics menu before changing anything:

  • DLSS Super Resolution is the upscaling feature. NVIDIA describes it as supported on GeForce RTX PCs, laptops, and GPUs.
  • DLSS Frame Generation is a separate feature, with a stricter requirement: a GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics card and Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) enabled in Windows, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s instructions.
  • FSR or XeSS are other upscaling technologies, not DLSS. The available compatibility information does not establish a complete matrix for every upscaler, build, and storefront.

Not having an RTX 40 Series card does not, by itself, explain why DLSS Super Resolution is missing; that generation requirement applies to Frame Generation.

Launch the DirectX 12 version

NVIDIA’s documentation for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s free Next-Gen update associates DLSS and ray-tracing features with the DirectX 12 version. If you launched the DirectX 11 version, exit the game, choose the applicable DirectX 12 launch option in your storefront launcher, and reopen the graphics settings. The label and location of the launch choice can vary by release or launcher, so use the option actually shown for your installation.

NVIDIA’s feature announcement is specific to the Next-Gen update; it does not establish that every release, build, or storefront presents the same launch choices or settings. NVIDIA’s feature notes describe what is available after loading the DirectX 12 version.

Check whether your hardware supports that specific feature

For DLSS Super Resolution, NVIDIA lists support for GeForce RTX PCs, laptops, and GPUs. For Frame Generation, CD PROJEKT RED specifies both a GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU and HAGS enabled in the operating system. A missing or disabled Frame Generation control on hardware that does not meet those conditions is different from missing DLSS upscaling.

Do not treat a general “DLSS not supported” message as proof that all upscaling is unavailable: verify which setting the message refers to and compare it with the requirements for that feature. The available sources do not provide a complete support matrix for every GPU and upscaler combination.

Install the update that matches your storefront

CD PROJEKT RED lists Patch 5.0 as live. Separately, Windows Central reported that a publisher notice for Patch 5.00b on October 1, 2026, addressed DLSS being unavailable in the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version. If you play through Xbox Play Anywhere, check that this update is installed. That report is specific to Xbox Play Anywhere; it is not evidence of a universal fix for Steam, GOG, Epic, or other PC installations.

Update your graphics driver

Install the latest driver for your GPU from its manufacturer. CD PROJEKT RED recommends checking graphics drivers when troubleshooting crashes or performance issues and links to drivers from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel. A driver update is a sensible maintenance check, not a guaranteed fix for a missing DLSS menu option. See CD PROJEKT RED’s installation and update guidance.

Verify the game files

Corrupted files can cause graphics glitches. CD PROJEKT RED recommends verifying the game files; use the instructions for your storefront:

  • GOG Galaxy: Owned games → Customize → Manage installation → Verify/Repair.
  • Steam: Library → right-click The Witcher 3 → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
  • Epic Games Launcher: Library → three dots beside the game → Manage → Verify.
  • Battle.net: Select the game → cog icon → Scan and Repair.

After verification completes, launch the game again and check the same graphics setting. CD PROJEKT RED’s file-verification instructions also advise loading a save made before the issue began, if possible.

If DLSS is still missing, gather the details that narrow it down

Before contacting support, note the exact menu label or message and collect:

  • The Witcher 3 version or build number.
  • Your storefront, such as Xbox Play Anywhere, Steam, GOG, Epic, or Battle.net.
  • Your GPU model and Windows version.
  • Whether you launched through DirectX 11 or DirectX 12.
  • Whether the missing setting is Super Resolution, Frame Generation, or another upscaler.

Those details distinguish a feature requirement from a launch-path, build, or installation issue. CD PROJEKT RED’s support portal organizes help by installation, launch, performance, and crash issues.
