Yes, but not by adding the Bluetooth speaker directly. Pair it with a Google Nest or Home device, then add that Google device to your speaker group. The Bluetooth speaker plays audio routed through its paired device, and you can adjust group delay if its audio is consistently and significantly out of sync.
How the Bluetooth speaker joins the group
The group member is the Nest or Home device, not the Bluetooth speaker. Google’s guidance is: “To include a Bluetooth speaker, add its paired Google Nest or Home device to the group.” The Nest or Home device relays group playback to the Bluetooth speaker over Bluetooth.
This means the paired Google device must remain part of the group for the Bluetooth speaker to receive that group’s audio. Google allows one Bluetooth speaker or set of headphones to play through a Nest or Home device at a time. The device may remember multiple paired Bluetooth devices, but it connects to only the most recently connected one.
Pair the Bluetooth speaker and create a group
- Confirm your Nest or Home device is set up and connected. Open the Google Home app on a phone or tablet and select the correct home.
- Turn on the Bluetooth speaker and put it in pairing mode.
- In Google Home, open the Nest or Home device tile and tap Settings > Audio. If prompted, select Paired Bluetooth devices > Enable pairing mode. Return to Audio, choose Default music speaker > Pair Bluetooth speaker, select your speaker, then tap Done. Menu wording may vary as the app changes. Google’s Bluetooth speaker setup instructions provide the current steps.
- Create a speaker group in the Google Home app and select the Nest or Home device paired with the Bluetooth speaker. Name and save the group. Google says group creation is available on a phone or tablet, not in Chrome. See Google’s speaker-group setup guidance.
- Play audio on the group. The Bluetooth speaker should play through its paired Nest or Home device.
Which devices can be group endpoints?
Google’s group guidance lists Home and Nest speakers, supported displays and streaming devices, and Pixel Tablets as possible group endpoints. A Pixel Tablet must be attached to its Charging Speaker Dock to be included. Google says the first-generation Chromecast is not supported by the current speaker-group feature. Check Google’s live compatible-device list for current availability.

Google also notes that certain models can belong to only one speaker group at a time. This matters if you want a device to participate in overlapping preset groups. Its separate Google Assistant grouping guidance lists the affected devices and conditions.
Fixing audio that is out of sync
Bluetooth can add playback delay. Only adjust the correction if the delay is consistent and significant; Google advises against changing it otherwise. The control is on the paired Nest or Home device and applies to every group that includes that device.

- Start music on the group and listen between the out-of-sync devices. If there are more than two, focus on one pair at a time.
- In Google Home, open the paired Nest or Home device and go to Settings > Audio > Group delay correction.
- Increase correction on the device that is playing last, then listen again. If synchronization gets worse, reset the correction to zero or try adjusting another device. Google’s group-delay instructions explain the control.
Google’s undated help page describes typical delay ranges of 0–40 ms for speakers, 0–80 ms for soundbars, and 0–70 ms for receivers. Google says soundbar and receiver delays are common and individual models may fall outside these ranges. These are category guidance figures, not measurements for a specific Bluetooth speaker or a guarantee of synchronization.

When this setup is—and is not—a good fit
- It fits: You already have a Nest or Home device and want to route its group audio to one paired Bluetooth speaker.
- It may not fit: You want the Bluetooth speaker itself to appear as an independent group endpoint, or you need multiple Bluetooth speakers playing through the same Nest or Home device simultaneously.
- Check before relying on it: If precise room-to-room timing matters, test playback in your rooms; Bluetooth delay can vary, and Google’s correction setting is intended for noticeable, consistent mismatch.
