Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo keep automated server repairs from running altered or untrusted code, verify signed content before the controller dispatches a job—and apply script-signing policy on Windows targets where PowerShell repairs run. For Ansible projects, the documented approach is to sign a checksum manifest and have the controller verify both the signature and the protected files’ checksums. Treat any verification or trust failure as a reason to stop, not proceed.
Choose what the signature must protect
First define the protected content: the whole Ansible project, selected project files, individual PowerShell repair scripts, or more than one of these. These controls cover different things. Ansible project verification checks selected files against a signed checksum manifest; PowerShell script signing governs whether particular scripts may run under the Windows policy and publisher trust configuration.
Ansible’s ansible-sign CLI documentation describes a GPG-based workflow: checksums are recorded in a manifest, the manifest is signed, and verification checks both the signature and whether protected files still match those checksums. The documentation says GPG is the only currently supported signing and validation method for this utility.
Block Ansible jobs when project verification fails
Set up signing and verification
-
Identify which files belong to the repair project’s integrity boundary. Ensure the manifest covers every file whose alteration could change a repair’s behavior; do not assume files outside that selection are protected.

-
Generate checksums for the selected project files and sign the resulting manifest with the signing key. Keep the private key within the controlled build or release process.
-
Provide the matching public verification key to the controller or other verifier. Limit acceptance to signing identities your organization approves, and define how an identity is removed from trust if it should no longer be accepted.
-
Run verification as part of the controller’s project update or job-admission path, before a repair job can be dispatched. In Red Hat Automation Controller, the documented behavior is that an invalid signature or changed file causes the project update to fail, and jobs using that project do not launch. See Red Hat’s Automation Controller project documentation.
Make rejection fail closed
Configure the workflow so a failed update or verification cannot be bypassed by the normal repair-launch path. A valid signature alone is insufficient: the verifier must also check the file checksums against the signed manifest. A missing or invalid signature, checksum mismatch, or unapproved signer should prevent dispatch.

Enforce PowerShell signing on Windows targets
Controller-side Ansible verification and Windows PowerShell policy are separate gates. The first can stop a project before a job launches; the second determines whether PowerShell scripts may run on Windows hosts. Use the target-side control when repairs execute PowerShell, and make its publisher trust configuration match your approved signing identities.
Microsoft’s PowerShell 7.4 signing documentation explains that AllSigned and RemoteSigned prevent some unsigned scripts from running, but they are not equivalent. RemoteSigned permits locally created unsigned scripts, so it may not satisfy a requirement that every repair script be signed. A signature must also come from a trusted publisher; a signed script from an untrusted publisher does not establish acceptable trust.
Choose a policy deliberately for the environment and configure trust for approved publishers. Microsoft notes that CA-issued code-signing certificates can be suitable for sharing scripts with computers that trust the issuing CA; certificate issuance alone does not replace configuring the relevant machines to trust the publisher.
Preserve signed bytes through execution
Sign the exact content that will be executed, and do not alter it between signing and verification or execution. Ansible warns that whitespace, line endings, encoding, or stripping trailing newlines can break a script signature. Templating, wrappers, or other handoff steps that rewrite content therefore need to be included in the integrity design: either sign the final executed bytes or verify that the handoff preserves the signed content.

Account for Windows App Control compatibility
Ansible documents New-AnsiblePowerShellSignature for signing wrappers and collection modules used with Windows App Control, but labels the helper a tech preview. Custom PowerShell content must be signed manually. Do not treat the helper as a production-ready dependency without evaluating its status and compatibility for the Ansible and Windows versions in use.
App Control can also affect how Ansible modules behave: the documentation describes cases where scripts run in Constrained Language Mode or modules do not work. Validate the specific repair modules and execution environment before enforcing the policy broadly. See Ansible’s Windows App Control documentation.

Where Sigstore fits—and where it does not
Sigstore is a broader software signing and verification ecosystem. Its overview describes artifact-signature verification and transparency-log-based verification for keyless or ephemeral-key signing. However, the Ansible project workflow documented here uses GPG, and the cited material does not establish a specific Sigstore integration with the repair controller. Do not substitute Sigstore for the documented controller verification path unless your chosen tooling explicitly supports and enforces that integration.
