Choose Google Password Manager if you mainly use Chrome and want saved logins to follow your Google Account across Android and Chrome. Choose Samsung Pass if your credentials and daily sign-ins are centered on Galaxy devices and you prefer Samsung’s biometric-integrated experience. Neither is a universal winner: the right choice depends on your devices, accounts, and which apps and browsers fill reliably for you.

How the two managers fit into your ecosystem

Decision Google Password Manager Samsung Pass
Best fit People who use Android, Chrome, and a Google Account across devices. Google says Password Manager is built into Chrome and Android and requires no separate installation. Google Password Manager People whose sign-ins are centered on Samsung Galaxy devices and a Samsung account. Samsung says Pass can fill credentials for supported sites and apps. Samsung UK support
Account and sync Google describes syncing passwords through a Google Account in Chrome or Android. Google Password Manager Samsung says saved IDs, passwords, addresses, and other non-biometric information can sync across up to five registered devices on one Samsung account. Biometrics must be enrolled separately on each device. Samsung UK support
Autofill choice on Android Select Google as the autofill provider in Android settings; Google also provides access through Chrome. Google Password Manager Select Samsung Pass as the preferred autofill service in Android settings. Menu labels vary by model and software version. Samsung UK support
Passkeys Google Password Manager can save passkeys. Android lets you select the provider used for passkey suggestions. Android Help Google Android Help names Samsung Pass as another provider for Android passkeys. Android Help

In practice, the choice is usually about continuity. If Chrome and a Google Account are central to your routine, Google Password Manager avoids adding a separate ecosystem. If you prefer Samsung’s credential experience on Galaxy devices, Samsung Pass may feel more natural. This comparison does not establish Samsung’s current support across every Windows, macOS, or iOS configuration, so users who regularly switch among those platforms should verify their own setup before committing.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Google Password Manager if…

  • You use Chrome regularly and want credentials associated with your Google Account.
  • You use more than one Android device or Chrome on other devices and value that Google-centered continuity.
  • You want the simpler default on an Android phone without installing a separate password-manager app.

Choose Samsung Pass if…

  • Your everyday devices and sign-ins are primarily Galaxy-based.
  • You prefer Samsung’s biometric-integrated sign-in flow and are comfortable managing credentials through a Samsung account.
  • The specific apps and websites you use work well with Samsung Pass autofill.

Test the fit before making it your default

Autofill compatibility and prompts matter more than a broad claim that one service works everywhere. Try your frequent banking, shopping, work, and social apps, plus the browsers you actually use. Android allows a preferred autofill service, so check which provider is selected if suggestions appear inconsistent.

Choosing a provider for passkeys

Android lets you select a provider for saving passkeys and suggesting them when you sign in. Google Android Help documents the setting under Settings > Passwords, passkeys & accounts; select the provider and enable its passkey suggestions. Samsung Pass is among the providers Google names. Provider choice does not make every account passwordless. Google notes that not all apps or websites support passkeys. A sign-in may still require a password, and passkey availability depends on the service you are logging into and the provider configured on your device.

Set the preferred autofill service

Use Google Password Manager

  1. Open Android Settings and search for Autofill service. The exact path and labels vary by Android version and manufacturer.
  2. Select Google as the autofill provider and enable Autofill with Google.
  3. Confirm that the intended Google Account is selected, then try a sign-in in an app and browser you use often.

Google also documents controls for save prompts, automatic passkey creation, auto sign-in, and apps for which prompts were declined. Turning off the visible Android shortcut does not delete the saved sign-in data. Google Pixel Phone Help

Use Samsung Pass

  1. On a Galaxy device, open Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Passwords, passkeys, and autofill.
  2. Open the preferred service option and select Samsung Pass.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts, then test autofill in your usual apps and supported sites.

Samsung UK documents this path, but warns that screens and menus can vary by model and software version. Samsung’s stated availability also depends on device, region, software, and biometric-sensor support. Samsung UK support

Those are each company’s descriptions of its own controls, not a like-for-like independent security test. The cited product documentation does not establish which service has stronger encryption design, account recovery, breach response, or autofill reliability. It is not enough to declare either one categorically safer.

Switching managers and transferring credentials

Google’s Android Blog announced a direct password-and-passkey transfer flow on September 10, 2026. At the time of that announcement, Google said the Android 8+ flow supported Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane, with more partners expected. Samsung Pass was not named in the announcement; that dated list does not establish permanent incompatibility. Google Android Blog

  1. Before switching, inspect the current import options in the destination manager and confirm that your source is supported.
  2. If using the announced Android transfer flow, follow its prompts to have the old provider review and authorize the transfer.
  3. On the destination, check important logins and passkeys individually before deleting or disabling the old vault.

Google also documents password imports and exports, but the September 2026 announcement does not name Samsung Pass as a participant in the direct flow. Do not assume passkeys stored in Samsung Pass will transfer through it; verify available options in both managers first.

Samsung-specific sync details to weigh

Samsung UK says Samsung Pass can sync non-biometric information—such as saved IDs, passwords, and addresses—across up to five registered devices using one Samsung account. The same support page says biometric data does not sync and must be enrolled separately on each device. Samsung’s stated Android 7.0+ and biometric-sensor availability applies to the UK support documentation and should not be read as a guarantee for every model, region, or software version.
