Apple TV+ is a better fit if you want eligible subscriptions shared through Apple Family Sharing and rely on Apple’s Screen Time controls across a child’s device. Disney+ is the stronger fit if you want child-specific streaming profiles, including Junior Mode, PINs, and content-rating limits. Your children’s ages, household devices, preferred titles, tolerance for ads, and local prices should decide the rest.

Which service has better parental controls?
It depends on where you want the controls to apply. Apple’s cited approach centers on a child’s device and Apple family settings. Disney+ describes controls attached to streaming profiles. They do different jobs, so one should not be treated as a direct substitute for the other.

Apple TV+: manage access on a child’s device
Apple’s Family Sharing and Screen Time tools are useful if your household already uses Apple devices and wants parents to manage a child’s app and content access at the device level. Ask to Buy adds purchase approval notifications for children. Apple’s cited guidance does not describe a Disney-style, dedicated Apple TV+ kids profile with its own rating ceiling; Screen Time settings apply more broadly to the child’s device use. Apple Support’s Family Sharing guidance.
Disney+: manage what appears on a profile
Disney+ offers more explicitly streaming-focused child settings. Junior Mode is described as containing all-ages content, and it can include a Kid-Proof Exit to make it harder for a child to leave that mode. Parents can also set a profile PIN, choose a content-rating ceiling, restrict profile creation, and control unrated live content. Disney+’s parental-controls guide.

- Shrink-wrapped
Check Disney+ profile defaults rather than assuming every profile is child-safe: the primary profile and profiles for account holders whose date of birth indicates they are 18 or older default to TV-MA. Review and adjust the rating settings when setting up the household. Disney+ Help.
Which service fits your children’s ages?
For younger viewers, Disney+ Junior Mode is the more directly documented option because it is specifically described as all-ages viewing and includes a Kid-Proof Exit. For older children, a profile rating ceiling can limit what is available on Disney+, while Apple Screen Time can manage app and content access on the child’s device.
Neither control system removes the need to check a specific title’s rating and suitability. Choose settings based on your child, and review them if the child’s age or household viewing rules change.
How Apple family sharing works
Apple says Family Sharing can include the organizer and up to five other people, each using a separate Apple Account. Eligible Apple TV+ subscriptions are automatically enabled for Family Sharing under Apple’s media-services terms, but not every content item is eligible for sharing. Members must also share the same home country. Apple Support; Apple Media Services Terms.

What the available prices do—and do not—show
Disney+’s US standalone plan page dated September 23, 2026 lists two monthly options for new subscriptions: $12.49 for Disney+ with ads and $21.49 for Disney+ Premium without ads. The page notes that prices through third-party billing can differ. These figures are US prices, not a global rate card. Disney+ plan page.
Rank #4
A current, matching Apple TV+ US price was not established in the cited sources, so these Disney+ prices alone cannot show which service is cheaper or better value. Check the local official offer for each service, and compare the same billing period and ad experience before deciding.
How to choose for your household
- Start with the children’s ages. If you want an all-ages profile mode for younger children, Disney+ documents Junior Mode. If your priority is limiting broader device use, consider Apple Screen Time.
- Look at the devices children actually use. Apple’s cited family controls depend on Family Sharing and Screen Time on Apple devices. Disney+’s parental controls are profile-based and are managed through a supported browser or mobile app, according to its help materials. Apple Support; Disney+ Help.
- Set up controls before handing over the screen. On Disney+, review profile ratings and the primary profile’s default. In an Apple household, configure Screen Time for the child and consider Ask to Buy for purchase approval.
- Check the titles your family wants. Catalog availability and suitability vary by region and change over time. Compare specific titles and ratings in your country rather than assuming one service has a better children’s catalog.
- Compare local prices and ads. Verify current prices on the services’ official local pages, including whether the plan has ads and whether you subscribe directly or through a third party.
Verdict
Choose Apple TV+ if Apple Family Sharing and device-level Screen Time controls match your household setup. Choose Disney+ if you want the documented streaming-profile controls, especially Junior Mode, a PIN, and adjustable rating limits. For a family whose deciding factor is catalog breadth or lowest cost, compare current local titles and prices first: the available evidence does not establish a winner on either measure.
