What is Lanterns?
HBO Max describes the series as following John Stewart, a new recruit played by Aaron Pierre, and Hal Jordan, a Lantern legend played by Kyle Chandler. Its official logline calls them “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Kelly Macdonald is also among the stars. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King co-created the series, with Mundy as showrunner; HBO is producing in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios.
The series is based on DC’s Green Lantern characters. HBO Max’s press room said on March 5, 2026, that the series would debut in August. Its official trailer description gave August 16, 2026, as the US date, while NOW lists August 17, 2026, as its premiere date in the UK. NOW’s current catalog listing shows one season and eight episodes; that listing does not establish whether a later season will be produced.
