There is no meaningful single “most generous” speech-to-text API limit: requests per minute, concurrent live streams, and concurrent batch jobs constrain different workloads. Compare each provider’s limit for the operation you will actually run, check whether it applies per project or account and region, and confirm whether it can be raised. The published figures below are not a head-to-head throughput or performance test.

Which limits matter for your workload?

Start by separating request rate from concurrency. A request-per-minute limit constrains how quickly you can submit operations; a concurrent-session limit caps how many long-lived streams can be open at once; and a concurrent-job limit constrains batch work in progress. These values are not interchangeable. A high stream ceiling does not mean an equally high batch-job ceiling, nor does it guarantee that a provider can process audio at that rate in your environment.

Record the quota’s scope alongside the number. Providers may apply limits by project, account, region, model, endpoint, plan, or operation. Also check whether other features share the same quota, whether the published number is a default or a fixed limit, and what inputs each operation accepts.

  • Streaming: peak simultaneous sessions, new sessions per minute, maximum stream lifetime, and audio arrival rate.
  • Batch: jobs in progress, request rate, file duration and size, storage requirements, and polling overhead.
  • Short synchronous recognition: requests per minute and per-request audio limits.
  • Capacity planning: scope, region, tier, shared quotas, and the process for requesting an increase.

How do the published provider limits compare?

The following are examples from official documentation checked on October 4, 2026. They describe different operations and scopes, so the table is a planning reference—not an overall ranking. Confirm limits for your account, selected region, tier, model, and API operation before launch.

Provider Published limit and operation Scope and adjustability
Google Cloud Speech-to-Text Streaming: 300 concurrent sessions per region and 3,000 requests per minute across concurrent sessions. Other documented quotas include 100 resource requests per 60 seconds per region, 150 operation requests per 60 seconds per region, 300 synchronous recognition requests per 60 seconds per region, and 150 batch recognition requests per 60 seconds per region. Quota applies to each developer project and is shared across applications and IP addresses using that project. Google says quota increases may be requested; values are subject to change.
Deepgram For the listed self-serve Pay as You Go plan: up to 150 concurrent streaming requests for Flux STT and up to 150 for Nova-3; up to 50 concurrent prerecorded Nova-3 requests. The listed regional tables cover North America, Europe, Australia, and India. Limits apply per project, not per account or API key. Extra self-serve projects do not add concurrency; higher limits are a Growth or Enterprise discussion. These are published plan ceilings, not guaranteed capacity for every account.
Microsoft Azure Speech Standard S0: default of 100 concurrent real-time requests for the base model endpoint and 100 for a custom endpoint. Free F0: one concurrent request. Speech-to-text and speech translation share the real-time concurrent-request limit. Microsoft says the Standard real-time rate is adjustable. For batch transcription, the shared request-rate quota can be increased through the fast-transcription process, but other batch limits cannot be adjusted.
Amazon Transcribe 25 concurrent standard transcription streams, combining HTTP/2 and WebSocket, and 250 concurrent transcription jobs per supported Region. Account-and-region service quotas; both listed standard quotas are marked adjustable. Specialized medical and analytics operations have separate values.

Read the providers’ current details in their official documentation: Google Cloud Speech-to-Text quotas, Deepgram API rate limits, Azure Speech quotas and limits, and Amazon Transcribe endpoints and quotas.

What can make a headline quota unusable?

Audio duration and session constraints

Google’s documented streaming session can remain open for up to five minutes, and audio must be sent at approximately real-time speed. Its batch files can be up to eight hours long; each batch request currently supports up to five files, and Google notes that this ceiling is expected to reduce to one. Synchronous audio is limited to 10 MB or one minute, whichever is reached first. These input rules determine whether the quota fits your workflow: long live sessions may need rotation, while an oversized synchronous input may need a different method. See Google’s quota documentation for the current constraints.

Shared limits and plan boundaries

A provider may share capacity across operations or features. Azure Speech-to-text and speech translation share the real-time concurrent-request quota; Deepgram says that when add-on services share a call, the lower applicable service limit governs. Deepgram also says distributing traffic across projects to bypass limits violates its terms. Do not assume that another API key, project, endpoint, or feature gives you additional usable capacity.

What “adjustable” does—and does not—mean

An increase path is a potential option, not a promise of approval or immediate capacity. Google allows quota increase requests. Azure identifies an adjustable Standard real-time rate and a specific increase process for the shared batch request-rate quota, while stating that its other batch limits cannot be adjusted. AWS marks the listed standard stream and job quotas adjustable. Deepgram directs higher concurrency needs to Growth or Enterprise discussions. Verify the applicable process and timing with the provider before making an increase part of a launch plan.

How should you compare cost and product fit?

Normalize cost to billable audio

Compare the charge for your expected workload, not just a headline per-minute price. Billing can depend on audio duration, channels, model, features, batch mode, or volume discounts, and providers do not necessarily define billable units the same way. For Google’s listed standard models, the pricing page states a monthly allowance of 60 minutes per account. Its standard V2 table lists, in the first listed price tier, $0.024 per minute without data logging and $0.016 per minute with data logging; the page also shows lower prices in other consumption columns. Each audio channel is billed separately, and Dynamic Batch is described as a lower-urgency discounted option. Check eligibility and the exact consumption model before applying those figures to a forecast. Google Cloud Speech-to-Text pricing

Check required capabilities and deployment region

A large quota is not a useful fit if the API lacks a needed language or feature, or cannot process data in an acceptable region. Confirm support for your languages, diarization, vocabulary adaptation, channel handling, redaction, and any medical or call-specific features you require. The quota figures alone do not establish equivalent feature coverage among providers.

Test quality and end-to-end performance on your audio

Quota documentation cannot determine transcription accuracy or latency for your speakers, accents, microphones, noise conditions, vocabulary, or target regions. Test representative recordings using the intended models and configuration. Measure end-to-end latency and quality against your own acceptance criteria; these published limits do not establish a universal speed or accuracy winner.

How to choose and plan capacity

  1. Describe the workload: estimate peak live sessions, new sessions per minute, batch jobs launched per hour, typical and maximum duration, channel count, and burst pattern.
  2. Match quotas to operations: for every candidate, record the operation, limit, scope, tier, region, model or endpoint, and any shared quota. Keep requests per time period separate from concurrent streams and jobs.
  3. Validate input constraints: check file size, duration, channel, frame, storage, and stream-lifetime requirements for the exact API method. Plan segmentation or stream rotation where needed.
  4. Build for throttling: use a request queue, bounded concurrency, and exponential backoff with jitter for retryable throttling. Monitor throttle responses, latency, and provider quota usage. Backpressure should work even if a quota increase is pending or denied.
  5. Forecast the bill: use expected audio hours, channels, model and feature choices, batch method, realistic retries, and any discount conditions. Recheck the provider’s billing unit and pricing terms.
  6. Run a representative benchmark: evaluate quality and end-to-end latency with the actual workload and intended deployment region; do not infer either from quota tables.
  7. Reconfirm before launch: re-open the official quota documentation and inspect the live account or cloud-console limits. Published values can change and may describe defaults rather than the capacity assigned to your account.

Can you name one API as the best choice?

Not from rate-limit figures alone. The right choice depends on whether the workload is streaming or batch, its burst shape and audio constraints, the applicable quota scope and increase path, required capabilities and region, and tested quality, latency, and cost. Without those workload details and representative audio, ranking these providers overall would be misleading.
