Facebook does not publish a fixed timeline for automatically deleting an account it has disabled. The often-cited 30 days applies to canceling a deletion request the account owner started; it is not a countdown for a disabled account. If Facebook disabled your account, log in and follow the appeal instructions shown on screen.

Does Facebook automatically delete disabled accounts?

Meta’s cited Facebook Help Center guidance does not give a general date when a disabled account will be deleted automatically, or a standard deadline for deciding an appeal. A disabled account and a deletion request are different situations: deletion is a separate process started by the account owner through account settings.

Meta’s appeal guidance says, “If your account has been disabled, you can submit an appeal by logging into your account and following the on-screen instructions.” That page addresses copyright-related content removal, so it establishes the on-screen appeal route in that context—not a universal appeal timeline for every reason an account may be disabled. What do the 30-day and 90-day periods mean?

These figures describe Meta’s user-requested deletion process, not how long a disabled account stays disabled. Meta notes that the cancellation period can vary by region.

Period What it applies to What it does not mean
30 days Under Meta’s cited deletion guidance, the account owner can cancel a deletion request by logging in within the stated period; Meta says the available number of days varies by region. The publication year of the help page is not stated. Facebook Help Center It is not a deadline for Meta to delete an account that it disabled.
Up to 90 days Meta says removing all posted content after a user starts deletion may take up to 90 days. The publication year of the help page is not stated. Facebook Help Center It is not an automatic-deletion date for a disabled account, nor a promise that every copy of information disappears by day 90.

Meta says information may remain in backup storage after the content-removal period, for reasons including disaster recovery, software errors, or data-loss prevention. It may also retain information for legal issues, terms violations, or harm prevention. Some messages may remain visible in friends’ inboxes. During deletion, Meta says the information is not accessible to other Facebook users.

What to do if Facebook disabled your account

  1. Go to Facebook and try to log in to the disabled account.
  2. Follow the appeal instructions displayed on the account screen. The cited guidance does not specify how long a decision takes.
  3. Use the current Facebook Help Center if you cannot log in or the screen does not show an appeal option; available steps can depend on the reason for the disabling action.

How to request deletion yourself

If you can access the account and want it deleted rather than appealing a disabling action, use the account’s deletion controls. Before proceeding, Meta recommends downloading a copy of your Facebook information; Meta says content added to the account cannot be retrieved after deletion.
