It lets a person type or select a message, then display it in large text or have the phone speak it. Its “two taps” rule is the developer’s design principle—not a published measurement of speed or ease of use.
What Tacit does
Tacit focuses on text-first communication: compose a message, then show or speak it. The US App Store listing describes a keyboard-based option as well as prepared phrases for common situations, including medical visits, restaurants, travel, transport, shopping, and emergencies. Users can edit those phrases and create their own situations. Tacit on the US App Store
Type, display, or speak a message
A typed sentence can be shown in large text after dismissing the keyboard. Alternatively, the phone can read it aloud using a selected voice and speed. This gives the user a choice between showing words to another person and using speech output.
Quick needs and personal information
One-tap icons surface everyday needs such as water, a restroom, a charger, a pharmacy, or a taxi. The listing also describes “My Card,” a displayable card for information such as the user’s name, conditions, allergies, medications, and emergency contacts. Because this can include sensitive health information, consider what is stored before relying on it in a particular setting.

Language assistance
Tacit also describes translating a sentence for display in another language, expanding rough notes into a more complete sentence, and suggesting phrases based on a description of the user’s upcoming day. These are convenience features, not assurances of clinically validated language or error-free translation. Check generated wording before using it for medical, safety-critical, or otherwise important communication.
What the two-tap rule means
Developer Sakib Shaikh describes the product rule this way: “Two taps to be understood, from anywhere in the app. If a screen adds a third tap, the screen is wrong.” He presents it as a design standard for keeping communication quick to reach, not as a result of an independent usability study. In his account, the guiding idea is that a person should not have to navigate deeply through the app to communicate a need or message. Shaikh’s October 2, 2026 account of Tacit

- Setup in ~40 seconds — open the box, power on, start speaking.
- No Wi-Fi required — works offline anywhere.
- One-time purchase — no subscriptions, no surprise fees.
- Start small, grow big — begin with a few tiles and expand to large boards as skills grow.
- 3,400+ built-in images for everyday communication.
The rule does not establish that every task takes two taps, that every user can operate the interface equally easily, or that Tacit is faster than another AAC app. The available sources provide no independent measured outcomes, and the App Store says there are not enough ratings or reviews to show an overview.
How its language features work offline and online
Shaikh says Tacit uses one of three approaches for language assistance: an on-device model on supported hardware, a remote service when the device is online but does not support that model, and a keyword-based phrase engine when there is no connection. He also says the user’s original words remain available if enhancement fails. These are developer-reported architecture details, not independently inspected performance findings. The basic ability to type, display, or speak a message should not be confused with the availability or accuracy of AI-assisted features.

Privacy disclosures
Shaikh says saved phrases and My Card data stay on the phone, and that text submitted for rewording or translation is not retained by Tacit or its model provider. Separately, the App Store privacy disclosure says the developer indicated that purchase history and user ID may be collected for app functionality. Apple explicitly notes that it has not verified the developer’s privacy practices. These are developer and store disclosures, not an independent privacy audit; users should review the current listing and avoid entering information they do not want processed or stored.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is not yet established
Tacit’s listing identifies its functions, but it does not establish broad user validation, comparative performance, or comprehensive accessibility conformance. Apple says the developer has not indicated which accessibility features the app supports. No independent usage or effectiveness statistics are provided in Shaikh’s account, which says launch data was too early for meaningful figures.
