What the Google Messages beta actually shows
NerdsChalk reports finding the newly added enable_3d_couple_emojis flag in Google Messages build messages.android_20260928_02_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic. Its teardown says the authors could not make the feature appear in the app. Google’s public sources reviewed do not confirm this Messages-specific flag.
A flag in an app build can indicate development or preparation, but it does not establish that a feature is complete, enabled, announced, or coming to a public release. The report was updated October 3, 2026; the build identifier points to September 28, 2026.
Are 3D couple emojis available in Google Messages yet?
The reported build did not provide a way to access them, so availability in Google Messages has not been established. The finding does not supply a release date, supported-device list, regional rollout details, or information about possible account or server requirements.

How would you use them?
There are no supported instructions for using the feature because the teardown could not surface it. The flag does not reveal an interface entry point, how a couple emoji would look, how it would behave when sent or received, or which combinations would be included. It also does not establish whether every existing couple emoji—or only some—would receive a 3D version.
How this differs from Google’s Noto 3D emoji project
Google has separately announced a broader Noto 3D emoji collection. In a May 12, 2026 announcement, Google Creative Director, Emoji Jennifer Daniel wrote: “Noto 3D will be available across Google, starting with Pixel phones, later this year.” That was a forward-looking statement when published; it is not confirmation that the collection is now available everywhere or that Google Messages supports 3D couple emojis.

Google’s July 17, 2026 project article describes a library of 3,977 emoji characters and says the 3D models are open source. Those are collection-wide details, not a count of couple emoji and not evidence that any particular Noto 3D model is mapped to the Messages flag.

- Whether Google will keep, enable, or remove the flag in later builds.
- Which couple combinations, if any, would be supported.
- How the feature would look or where it would appear in Messages.
- When or where it might launch, which devices might support it, and whether access would depend on an account or server-side change.
- Whether the Noto 3D models relate directly to this Messages implementation.
Until Google confirms the feature or it becomes accessible in a release, the flag should be treated as a limited code discovery rather than a product announcement.
