On a computer, open the page in Chrome and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Choose a PDF destination in the print interface, inspect the preview, check the page range and layout settings, then save. If a blank page is already visible in the preview, adjust the settings before saving; if the problem affects only one website, its print-specific CSS may be changing the pagination.
Print a long web page to PDF in Chrome
- Open the webpage you want to save.
- Open Chrome’s print interface with Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Google lists these shortcuts for printing web pages in Chrome: Chrome keyboard shortcuts for computers.
- In the print interface, choose a PDF destination. The wording and available destination choices can vary by desktop operating system and destination.
- Inspect the preview, select the intended page range, and review paper size, margins, scale, and headers or footers.
- Save or print to the selected PDF destination. Google’s Chrome workflow explains selecting a destination and changing print settings: Print web pages in Chrome.
Do not assume the desktop dialog uses the exact label “Save as PDF” on every system. Google’s instructions that explicitly use that wording cover Android, not all desktop print dialogs: Print from Chrome on Android.
Check the preview for blank pages
The preview is the quickest way to tell whether the blank sheet is being produced by the current print setup. If it is visible before you save, check the page range first: make sure you have not included an unintended page or selected a range that creates an empty sheet. Then review the layout settings below. These checks can identify a setup issue, but no single setting is a guaranteed fix for every site.
Paper size, margins, and scale
Confirm the paper size you intend to use, then inspect margins and scale. A long page can paginate differently when the printable area changes. Use the preview after each adjustment so you can see whether the blank sheet disappears and whether the text and images still fit legibly.

Headers and footers
As a controlled check, toggle headers and footers and inspect the preview again. These options affect content around the page margins; they are worth checking, but a header or footer is not the same as a blank page body. Chrome supports CSS-generated content in printed page margins, with that support arriving in Chrome 131; the feature is described in Chrome for Developers’ article dated 2024-10-30: Add content to the margins of web pages when printed using CSS. In managed Chrome environments, an administrator may control browser settings through policy: Set Chrome policies for users or browsers.
When the website’s print styling may be responsible
Websites can use different CSS for printing than for screen display. A print stylesheet can hide or restyle content with @media print; @page can define printed page dimensions, orientation, and margins. CSS break rules can also affect where pages begin. MDN explains these print mechanisms in its printing CSS guide and documentation for break-before and page-break-after; page-break-after is a deprecated alias replaced by break-after.

If the blank page appears only on one site while other pages print normally, page-specific print styling or break declarations are possibilities—not a confirmed diagnosis. Chrome’s generic print help cannot identify the cause for an unspecified page, and an ordinary reader may not be able to fix the site’s CSS through the print dialog.
Choose the best route for a page that still prints badly

A site-provided print view is a practical alternative only when the site offers one. If neither route resolves the issue, record the site, page URL, and the exact symptom in the preview; diagnosing a specific failure requires the affected page or its print CSS.

Troubleshoot Chrome PDF blank pages
- The blank sheet is visible in preview: Check the selected page range, paper size, margins, and scale; change one setting at a time and recheck the preview.
- The blank sheet appears only after changing headers or footers: Restore the previous setting and compare previews. Margin content and the printed page body are separate areas.
- Only one website prints blank pages: Treat its print stylesheet or page-break rules as possible causes. Try the site’s own print/export view if available.
- Several pages or sites show the same symptom: Recheck the print destination and layout settings, then compare previews for another page. The available general browser and CSS documentation does not establish one universal cause or fix.
- The cause remains unclear: Report the affected page and whether the blank sheet is present in Chrome’s preview. A definite diagnosis needs the page or its print styling.
