Good influencer marketing starts with fit: the creator’s audience, the campaign’s purpose, and the product or service should make sense together. Creators can improve their chances of getting brand deals by making that fit easy to assess. Businesses can improve partnerships by vetting carefully, agreeing on the work and rights in advance, requiring honest disclosures, and measuring results against a goal they set before launch.

Start with the audience and the campaign goal

A large follower count alone does not show whether a creator is right for a partnership. First identify who the campaign needs to reach and what the campaign should accomplish. Then look for a creator whose audience, subject matter, location, and usual content fit that job.

For creators: make the brand fit explicit

Before pitching, explain why the product or service belongs in your content and why your audience may care. A specific fit is more useful than a generic message about wanting to collaborate. Be candid about what you have and have not tried, and do not imply that audience size guarantees results.

For businesses: define the job before searching

Write down the intended audience, relevant geography, and campaign objective before reviewing potential partners. A campaign seeking broad awareness may need a different audience or content format from one designed to prompt a specific action. Treat relevance as a starting point, not a substitute for reviewing the creator’s content and suitability.

How creators can make a strong, assessable pitch

Build a concise media kit

Give a prospective partner enough relevant information to evaluate fit without burying the pitch in unrelated metrics. YouTube’s guidance on getting brand deals suggests sharing audience insights and channel-performance information. Useful examples include:

  • A brief description of your channel and the content you make.
  • Audience information relevant to the proposed campaign, such as demographics or geography where available.
  • Active subscribers, view counts, and engagement indicators that make sense for your channel and the proposed work.
  • Relevant examples of past partnerships or content, clearly distinguished from guaranteed future outcomes.

Use accurate figures, identify the time period or context when it matters, and do not present an isolated high-performing post as typical performance. A brand needs a credible picture, not inflated numbers.

Write a pitch around one clear idea

Address the brand, identify the fit, and suggest a plausible content concept that still sounds like your work. Include the audience or channel information most relevant to that concept, and state what you are proposing. If the brand needs additional audience data or a different deliverable, it can then respond with a concrete question.

Protect the credibility of your content

TikTok’s platform guidance recommends alignment between a creator and brand and content that retains the creator’s normal storytelling style. Treat that as platform-published advice, not proof that a particular format will outperform another. The practical test is whether you can communicate the partnership naturally while being truthful about your experience and the product.

How businesses can find and vet creators

Build a shortlist against the campaign’s actual needs rather than choosing by follower count alone. TikTok for Business’s March 23, 2026 Creator Suitability Report describes partner selection, vetting, guardrails, and lifecycle management as elements of responsible creator partnerships; this is platform-authored guidance, not a guarantee of campaign performance.

Compare candidates on relevant evidence

  • Audience fit: Does the creator reach the intended people and relevant locations?
  • Content fit: Does the subject matter and style make the partnership believable for the audience?
  • Suitability and history: Review the creator’s public content and consider whether it suits the brand, category, and campaign context.
  • Relevant performance: Look for evidence tied to the proposed work, such as views or engagement, and ask how figures are defined when needed.
  • Cost and rights: Compare the proposed compensation with the deliverables and the scope of usage rights or paid promotion the business needs.

No single follower tier, platform, or format is universally best. Choose based on where the intended audience can be reached, what the creator does well, and what the campaign needs to measure.

Keep selection and collaboration connected

Vetting should continue after a creator is selected. Agree on the facts that must be accurate, claims that must not be made without evidence, deliverables, timing, review steps, and reporting. Set guardrails for truth and brand requirements, but leave room for the creator’s own voice. TikTok’s advice on creator collaboration is a platform perspective; it should not be treated as independent proof of a particular outcome.

Agree on the terms before content is published

There is no universal contract template in the cited guidance. As a practical matter, put the key commercial and production terms in writing before work begins. Clarify:

  • Compensation: Payment, gifted or discounted products, other benefits, payment timing, and any expenses.
  • Deliverables: Number and type of posts or other content, channels, specifications, and deadlines.
  • Review process: What the business may review, what changes it may request, and how quickly each side must respond.
  • Usage rights: Where and for how long the business may reuse the content, including any permitted edits.
  • Paid amplification: Whether the business may promote the creator’s content as an ad and what permissions that requires.
  • Exclusivity: Whether category restrictions apply, for which competitors, and for what period.
  • Disclosure responsibility: Who will check that the relationship is disclosed clearly in each relevant format.
  • Measurement and reporting: Which results will be reported, by whom, from what source, and when.

Resolve usage, exclusivity, and paid-promotion permissions explicitly; a creator agreeing to make a post does not, by itself, settle every later use of that content.

Disclose paid, gifted, and other material connections clearly

Disclosure rules depend on jurisdiction, platform policy, audience, and circumstances. The guidance here draws especially on U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) materials and UK government guidance; it is not a substitute for checking the requirements that apply to a particular campaign. FTC staff says U.S. law can apply to creators posting from abroad when it is reasonably foreseeable that the content will affect U.S. consumers.

Creators: put the disclosure where viewers will notice it

FTC staff guidance treats payment, free or discounted products, and other things of value as potential material connections that may need disclosure. Use plain, clear language such as “ad” or “sponsored,” placed with the endorsement so viewers can readily see it. Do not rely on a disclosure hidden in a profile bio, behind a “more” link, or in a cluster of hashtags.

For video, FTC staff recommends putting the disclosure inside the video, not only in the caption. Spoken and visible disclosure together can reach people watching with or without sound. In a livestream, repeat the disclosure periodically so viewers joining later can see it. Follow the applicable platform’s disclosure features too, but do not assume a platform label alone necessarily satisfies legal duties.

Businesses: check platform labels and legal duties separately

Meta’s Instagram Help Centre says its paid partnership label is required for branded content involving an exchange of value, which can include gifted products. That is a platform policy; businesses and creators should also check the law that applies to the promotion. FTC staff likewise cautions against assuming that platform disclosure tools alone are sufficient. UK Competition and Markets Authority guidance separately addresses disclosure duties for brands and creators, including paid or gifted posts.

Do not confuse the reviews rule with endorsement disclosures

The FTC Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule took effect on October 21, 2024. The FTC’s rule Q&A explains that the rule does not itself set influencer-brand disclosure requirements. That distinction does not make undisclosed material connections harmless: they can still raise concerns under the FTC Act and the FTC’s endorsement guidance.

Keep endorsements truthful and claims supportable

A creator should not claim to have used a product they have not tried, describe an experience they did not have, or make an endorsement that misrepresents their views. Businesses should not ask creators to make unsupported claims or imply that a product delivers a result the advertiser cannot substantiate. FTC endorsement guidance emphasizes truthful endorsements and evidence for claims; health and other regulated categories may have additional rules. Check category-specific requirements before a campaign goes live.

In practice, businesses should give creators accurate product information and mark claims that require substantiation. Creators should ask for clarification if a brief asks them to state a result they cannot verify from their experience or the advertiser’s evidence. A disclosure does not make a false or unsupported claim acceptable.

Measure the campaign against its stated purpose

Choose the success measure before launch, and agree on its source and reporting date. The metric should match the objective rather than whichever number is easiest to collect.

  • Awareness: Agree which reach or exposure measures will be reported and where those figures come from.
  • Response: Define the intended action and the attribution approach before publishing. Make clear what counts as a response and which reporting source will be used.
  • Creator learning: If the campaign is testing a format or audience, define what the test can and cannot establish before interpreting the result.

TikTok describes discovery, workflow, and measurement functions in TikTok One, while YouTube says audience and performance information helps brands assess possible partners. Neither point establishes one universal return-on-investment formula or proves that a single attribution method works for every campaign. Report results with their context and avoid presenting correlation as proof that the partnership caused an outcome.

A separate YouTube option for creators who run prerecorded streams

Influencer campaigns do not require a 24/7 stream, but some YouTube creators also choose to keep a channel live with prerecorded videos. For that separate use case, StreamNeo is a cloud service that loops uploaded videos or a playlist to YouTube, so a computer does not have to stay on. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is for uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube only. See StreamNeo pricing for current plan details. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Start a StreamNeo free day.
