If you want the browser to behave as though it uses a locale—not just send one literal header—set the locale on its browser context instead. A language preference asks the site for content; it cannot guarantee the site will display that language.
Choose between a browser locale and an explicit header
These settings are related but not interchangeable. A Playwright browser-context locale emulates broader browser language behavior. An extra HTTP header sets the exact request value you specify.

For a simple request to make a site behave like a French-language browser, start with the context locale. For a test requiring the exact string fr-FR,fr;q=0.9, set that header explicitly.
Set up the AI agent’s screenshot workflow
The agent needs an environment with Node.js, the Playwright package, and its browser installed. Give it the target URL and either the locale or exact header value, plus the desired output path. The examples below use JavaScript and Chromium; replace the example URL and language value with the ones you need.

Use browser locale emulation
Create the context with the locale before creating or navigating the page. Playwright then applies the locale settings when the page loads.

})();The example waits until the initial HTML document has been parsed. If the target renders translated content asynchronously, wait for a page-specific condition—such as a translated heading—before capturing, rather than assuming the first navigation event means the page is ready.
Send an exact Accept-Language header
Set the extra header before page.goto(), so it is in place for the initial navigation.

})();Choose the language preference the task actually requires. The header above is an example, not a universal value: the target site may interpret language tags, preferences, or fallback behavior in its own way.

Playwright captures the viewport by default. Use fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable page. You can also use screenshot options such as output format, scale, masking and animation handling when the task requires them; see the Playwright screenshot API.
For repeatable captures, consider disabling animations or masking dynamic or sensitive elements. If the page loads content as the user scrolls, a full-page option alone may not cause every lazy-loaded image or section to appear; wait for or trigger the content your task needs before taking the shot.

Give the agent a clear task and check its result
An AI agent can run either script and return the saved file path, but the request should specify the details that affect correctness:
- The target URL and whether to use a browser locale or an exact
Accept-Languageheader. - The required locale or complete header string.
- Whether to capture the viewport or full page, and the required filename or format.
- A meaningful readiness condition if the translated content appears after initial page load.
- Whether the agent should report the resulting file path and any navigation or capture error.
Inspect the resulting image when the rendered language matters. A request header is not proof that the site honored it: the page can use its own language selector, cookies, URL rules, account settings or content rules. If correctness depends on the request itself, verify the relevant network behavior separately.

A Playwright-managed browser is the simpler choice for a standalone screenshot task. If the agent must connect to an existing Chromium-based browser, Playwright provides connectOverCDP(). Its documentation cautions that this connection has significantly lower fidelity than Playwright’s own connection protocol. Playwright: connectOverCDP()

In either setup, configure the locale or header before the target navigation. Connecting to another browser is not necessary just to set a language preference and save a screenshot.

The page is still in its original language
The site may ignore the language preference or choose language using a cookie, URL, account setting, or its own selector. Check the page’s language controls and site-specific behavior; changing Accept-Language cannot force the site to translate its content.
The first page request used the wrong preference
Set locale when creating the browser context, or call setExtraHTTPHeaders() before page.goto(). If navigation already happened, configure a fresh page or context and navigate again.

The screenshot is blank or misses translated content
The page may not have finished rendering when the screenshot was taken. Wait for a page-specific element or condition rather than relying only on a short fixed delay. For scroll-triggered content, ensure it has loaded before using a full-page capture.
Network inspection does not show the final header clearly
Some request headers are attached by the network stack immediately before transmission and are not reliably exposed or overridden through routing. Redirects create a request chain, and continued-request headers apply across redirect hops, with a cookie exception. Do not treat a partial view of an intercepted request as definitive evidence of the final on-wire header. Playwright network documentation

Does changing Accept-Language guarantee that a page will be translated?
No. It expresses a language preference, but the site decides how to render its content.
Can I set a language header after the page has loaded?
Set it before navigation so the initial request uses it; otherwise create a configured page or context and navigate again.
