You can use short-duration video files as source material, but that does not make the resulting broadcast a Short.
Short source video is not the same as a YouTube Short
“Shorts” can refer either to brief video content in everyday conversation or to YouTube’s Shorts format. The distinction matters here:
- A YouTube Short is a video uploaded in YouTube’s Shorts format. Gyre describes Shorts separately as vertical uploads. Gyre’s Shorts overview

So, a brief clip may be part of the playlist, but the documented result is still a live stream—not a continuously published YouTube Short.
How Gyre’s 24/7 workflow works

The key distinction is the delivery format, not the duration of each video in the playlist: brief source clips do not change the broadcast’s documented classification.
What is not established about vertical video
Gyre’s reviewed descriptions do not specify whether every vertical 9:16 input is accepted unchanged, whether Gyre converts it, or how YouTube may surface a vertical live feed. Vertical orientation alone should not be treated as proof that a broadcast will be classified or displayed as a Short.

If a particular framing or placement matters to your channel, confirm the current behavior with Gyre and check the resulting broadcast in YouTube before relying on it. The available product descriptions establish the regular live-broadcast workflow, not every aspect-ratio or interface outcome.
