Apple has not announced a second-generation Vision Pro or given it a release date. The “may not ship until 2026” framing is out of date: Apple released an M5-equipped Vision Pro in October 2025, while later reports describe a possible successor as delayed or no longer on the active roadmap. A release in 2028 or later is speculation attributed to reporters and analysts, not an Apple-confirmed schedule.
What is the latest Apple Vision Pro 2 release date?
As of September 30, 2026, there is no Apple-confirmed Vision Pro 2 launch date. Apple has not announced a second-generation model, its specifications, or a successor model number.
In a May 11, 2026 report, MacRumors attributed to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman the view that, if another Vision Pro-style device materializes, it may be “around two more years at least.” That is a reporter’s expectation, not a release window from Apple. A June 3, 2026 roadmap report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said planned Vision Pro successors and the lighter Vision Air had disappeared from the visible roadmap. Those reports leave the timing uncertain; they do not establish a launch date.
Has Apple canceled Vision Pro?
There is no official cancellation announcement in the information available as of September 30, 2026. The reporting points in a less certain direction than a simple delay: Apple is said to be shifting mixed-reality talent toward lighter smart glasses, leaders have reportedly questioned Vision Pro’s price and physical design, and the product roadmap has reportedly been consolidated. These are reported factors behind the uncertainty, not proof of a final decision.

It is therefore more accurate to say that a successor is unannounced and its future is uncertain than to say Apple has canceled Vision Pro. The reports also do not establish that Apple will make a cheaper or lighter headset.

Buying now makes more sense if
- You have a specific use for spatial computing now and the M5 model’s U.S. starting price fits your budget.
- You are comfortable choosing based on the model Apple sells today rather than an unannounced product.
Waiting makes more sense if
- You do not need a headset yet and would rather avoid committing before Apple clarifies whether it plans a successor.
- Your decision depends on a lower price, lighter design, better comfort, or particular specifications. None of those has been confirmed for a future model.
Waiting has no guaranteed payoff: current reporting provides neither a confirmed successor nor a dependable date to wait for. If you buy now, treat the M5 Vision Pro as the product you are choosing—not as a temporary model with a promised near-term replacement.
