Google has begun giving selected cybersecurity defenders access to Gemini 4 Argon, its new AI model for long-running work that includes finding, validating, and patching software vulnerabilities. The rollout is limited to trusted participants in Google’s Fairwind Program; Google has not announced a public release date.

What Google announced

On September 30, 2026, Google said it was starting a phased release of Gemini 4 Argon with trusted cyber defenders through Fairwind. Google plans to gather feedback and continue refining safeguards before expanding access. It says the first broader-access groups will be paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers, but has not given a date. Google’s announcement is the source for the rollout plan and the model’s capability claims.

Argon is a new model being added to Fairwind’s defender-first approach, not the program’s original model. When Google introduced Fairwind in September 2026, it described a limited-access initiative for trusted Google Cloud customers, government agencies, and cybersecurity partners. That initial step used Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber with the CodeMender harness. Argon is a later addition to the program. Google’s Fairwind overview describes the program and its initial approach.

What Argon is claimed to do

Google describes Argon as a frontier model for long-running workflows in software engineering, enterprise knowledge work—including legal and finance—and cyber defense. Its central security claim is that Argon can autonomously discover, validate, and patch critical software vulnerabilities.

Google says Argon uncovered a critical vulnerability that exposed sensitive personal information in healthcare software used by hospitals. It names Wiz as an early user through the company’s Scan for Good initiative. This is a Google-reported early demonstration, not evidence that Wiz is generally offering Argon as a commercial product or that the result has been independently replicated.

Performance figures Google reported

Google reports the following results for Argon. These figures and rankings are vendor claims; the cited announcement does not provide an independent replication.

Evaluation or measure Google-reported result
CWE-bench v1, vulnerability remediation 68%; tied for first, according to Google
DeepSWE v1.1 77.9%
AutomationBench 51.3%; Google reports a number-one ranking
Maximum output context 1 million output tokens, up from 64,000, according to Google

The benchmark percentages are not a guarantee that Argon will achieve the same results on a particular organization’s code, threat model, or workflow.

Who can use Argon now—and what comes next

Initial access is for trusted cyber defenders participating in Fairwind, rather than general users. Google says the program is aimed at governments and national cyber authorities, critical infrastructure operators, and core technology platforms. It reports more than 650 participating partners globally. Participating organizations must restrict access to employees on internal cybersecurity, incident-response, or penetration-testing teams and use protections such as multi-factor authentication.

Google says it intends to make Argon available without cyber guardrails to trusted defenders and its own internal teams. That describes controlled access for trusted users, not unrestricted public availability. Before broader access, Google says it is working on protections against cyber and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear misuse; defenses against indirect prompt injection; monitoring for misalignment; and stronger sandbox environments for high-risk training or evaluation.

“Safely releasing frontier capabilities at this level requires a phased approach.”

What defenders can use instead of Argon

Google says any Google Cloud customer can use CodeMender with publicly available models hosted on Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, together with AI Threat Defense. This is an adjacent Google Cloud option for code security, not a way to access Gemini 4 Argon. Google describes CodeMender as helping write and validate code fixes; Fairwind participants use the program to help find and fix vulnerabilities.

Google’s Argon announcement does not establish a general commercial offering from Wiz. Its mention of Wiz is specifically as an early user through Scan for Good.

What the announcement does—and does not—settle

Google has identified the first groups planned for broader access—paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers—but has not published a launch date. The announcement also does not provide independent performance testing or a complete comparison with other security tools. Because access terms and model prices can change, check Google’s announcement for current details before making plans.

At launch, Google listed Argon API pricing at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens during an introductory period, rising afterward to $4 and $20 respectively. Google also said cached input tokens would cost 95% less than the input-token price during that introductory period. These are vendor-listed prices, not a guarantee of current or recurring rates; verify them against Google’s current announcement before budgeting.
