Leaked setup screens reportedly show Apple’s upcoming HomePad being configured in the Home app, with a step to create a Photo Face. The feature is also reportedly in development for StandBy on iPhone Duo, but Apple has not confirmed either product detail.

What the reported HomePad setup screens show

On October 1, 2026, Ben Lovejoy of 9to5Mac reported that software leaker pdfu had shared three screenshots said to depict the HomePad setup process. The report says setup would take place in the Home app and include a step for creating a “Photo Face.”

9to5Mac attributed this description to pdfu: “Setting up Apple’s upcoming Home device includes a new step: creating a Photo Face.” The screenshots and feature details remain leak claims, not an Apple announcement or confirmation that the screens show final software.

How Photo Face would use your photo library

According to 9to5Mac’s account of pdfu’s explanation, Photo Face requires iCloud Photos. During setup, users would reportedly be able to select a few high-resolution photos for prompt display while the rest of their photo library downloads from iCloud.

The report does not establish how long that download would take, what network conditions or storage limits would apply, or whether this flow would remain in the final product.

How the feature is reportedly shared with iPhone Duo

Pdfu also claimed: “It’s the same Photo Face coming to StandBy on iPhone Duo.” That is a leaker’s description, as relayed by 9to5Mac—not a confirmed Apple feature. The same report recaps five other StandBy views reportedly found in the Xcode simulator: Home Camera, Home Modular, Flow, Fade, and Snoopy. Their inclusion is also based on leak reporting.

What is documented today—and what is not

Apple’s Personal Safety User Guide documents existing Home app features, including viewing and controlling Home accessories on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and managing who can access a shared Home. That established functionality provides context for the reported setup path, but it does not verify HomePad, Photo Face, the screenshots, or an iPhone Duo feature.

9to5Mac reported an October 13, 2026 launch expectation. The cited report does not identify that date as an official Apple announcement, so it should be treated only as an expected date reported at the time.
