Separately, Financial Times analysis reported by 9to5Mac puts Apple’s spending at about €9 million a year and counts 257 meetings with EU policymakers since June 2024. Those are distinct measures from distinct sources, not a single audited total.
How much does Apple spend lobbying the EU?
Corporate Europe Observatory and LobbyControl’s 2026 EU Corporate Lobby League lists Apple’s declared annual lobbying budget as €8 million, €6 million more than its 2020 figure. The figure is based on register declarations; it is not an audit of all costs Apple may incur in lobbying.
A separate Financial Times analysis, as summarized by 9to5Mac on October 1, 2026, describes Apple as spending about €9 million a year. The available account does not establish that this estimate uses the same calculation or reporting period as the league’s €8 million declared budget, so the two amounts should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
How often has Apple met EU policymakers?
The Financial Times analysis, as relayed by 9to5Mac, counted 257 Apple meetings with EU policymakers since June 2024. In the comparison reported, Google had 302 meetings and Amazon had 239. The meeting count is not a measure of spending, and it should not be combined with the league’s declared-budget figures.

How does Apple’s declared budget compare with other sectors?
The 2026 league reports declared annual lobbying budgets of €73 million for leading technology companies and associations, €66.75 million for finance, €52 million for energy, and €46.5 million for chemicals and agribusiness.
Its total of €381.75 million covers 173 companies and industry associations that declared at least €1 million a year. It does not represent all lobbying in the EU: organisations below that threshold are excluded.

What does the EU Transparency Register show?
The EU Transparency Register is a public database for information about interests represented at EU level, the policies and decisions those interests seek to influence, their funding, and the resources they devote to lobbying. The register says it is designed to show “what interests are being represented at EU level at any one time.” Registered representatives sign a code of conduct and are responsible for keeping their profiles accurate and current.
Registration became “de facto mandatory” in 2021 for representatives seeking specified forms of direct engagement with EU institutions, including access to institutional premises for meetings and expert panels. That practical condition is different from a legally binding register with enforceable sanctions. Corporate Europe Observatory and LobbyControl describe the system as voluntary and argue that the absence of binding sanctions affects data quality.

How reliable are the reported lobbying figures?
The league’s authors say register data can be inaccurate, may be over- or under-reported, and can reflect historical rather than current spending. Registrants update their profiles on different schedules, so the figures can change over time. The authors finalized their analysis on May 11, 2026.
Accordingly, Apple’s €8 million figure is best read as its declared annual budget in that analysis—not as a verified accounting of every lobbying expense. The separate meeting count and approximate €9 million spending figure are attributed to the Financial Times analysis through 9to5Mac’s report; they do not independently verify the league’s register-based amount.
