Two requests stand out in the accessible reporting: make Apple Music more social, including a way for friends to combine their tastes in a playlist, and show per-song play counts in the iPhone and iPad apps. These are reported suggestions—not results from a representative subscriber poll—so they should not be read as a ranking of what Apple Music users broadly want.
What Apple Music subscribers are asking for
Playlists that bring friends’ tastes together
The title-matching report describes a desire for Apple Music to offer more social music discovery, including a shared playlist that combines friends’ listening tastes. The idea is comparable to Spotify Blend as a general reference, but the request does not establish that subscribers want every feature Blend offers, nor has Apple announced an equivalent built-in feature.

There are several different experiences a social feature could mean: privately sharing listening with a friend, letting people add tracks to a collaborative playlist, or automatically matching friends’ tastes. Those are not interchangeable. A taste-matching playlist would raise practical questions about who can participate, what listening data is shared, how visibility is controlled, and whether someone without an Apple Music subscription can join. The available reporting does not specify answers or detailed design requirements.
A community discussion illustrates that listeners have different expectations: some talk about social sharing, collaborative playlists, and SharePlay, while others already value collaborative playlists or SharePlay. That thread is anecdotal and self-selected; it cannot establish how common any view is. Read the community discussion.

Play counts in the iPhone and iPad library
The report also identifies a request to see how many times a song has been played in the iOS and iPadOS library. It says play counts are available in the main library view on macOS, but not in the iPhone or iPad apps. This is a platform-specific request: a visible count beside a track is different from a recently played list, listening history, or a recommendation based on past activity.
Apple’s developer documentation describes ways authorized apps can access a subscriber’s library, recommendations, and recently played information through MusicKit and the Apple Music API. That does not show that Apple’s own iPhone or iPad Music app displays per-track play counts, and it does not guarantee that an API provides a complete historical count. Access is subject to user authorization and an active subscription. See Apple Music API documentation.

How to read these requests
The accessible excerpt from the title-matching article identifies these two feature ideas, but it is not evidence of a statistically representative survey. No subscriber percentage, ranked poll, or broad trend is established by the available reporting. The useful takeaway is that these are concrete user-facing possibilities, not proof that most subscribers want them.
Apple’s developer platform already supports authorized access to some listening-related information, but API access for third-party apps should not be mistaken for a native Apple Music interface or a promised product change. Likewise, existing social features such as sharing or collaborative playlists do not by themselves deliver automatic friend taste matching.

What Apple has announced recently
June 2026: lyrics, AutoMix, and audio on more platforms
In a June 9, 2026 announcement, Apple described expanded lyrics translation and pronunciation, improved AutoMix transitions, AutoMix coming to tvOS and HomePod, and Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless Audio on tvOS for compatible external speaker outputs. Apple listed supported language pairings and cautioned that availability varies by language, region, and device. The announcement is not, by itself, confirmation that every feature has completed its rollout on every supported device. Read Apple’s June 2026 announcement.
June 2025: features announced for that software cycle
Apple’s June 2025 announcement covered AutoMix, lyrics translation and pronunciation, enhancements to Apple Music Sing, and the ability to pin favorite music at the top of the Library. An announcement establishes what Apple said it planned for that software cycle; it does not establish current availability on every device. Check the relevant device’s current software release notes for rollout and operating-system requirements. Read Apple’s June 2025 announcement.

What remains on the wishlist
The recent announcements address features such as lyrics, mixing, singing, library organization, and audio support. They do not announce the two requested changes described in the report: friend taste matching in a shared playlist and native per-track play counts in the iPhone or iPad library. Their absence from those announcements does not establish what Apple may develop later.
