To update an email password on iPhone 15, change or confirm the password with your email provider, then sign in again in Mail. On current iOS versions, find the account at Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts. A separate password box may not appear because many providers use a secure sign-in flow instead of manual password entry.
Update the password for an email account in Mail
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Mail.
- Tap Mail Accounts and select the email account that is having trouble.
- If a sign-in or reauthentication prompt appears, follow it and complete any security checks required by your provider.
- If no prompt appears, use the provider’s official website or app to change or reset the mailbox password. Return to Mail afterward and respond to any sign-in prompt.
The iPhone 15 model does not change this basic workflow. The exact labels and screens can differ by iOS version and by provider.

Why you may not see a Mail password field
Mail accounts do not all authenticate the same way. Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Exchange, and custom-domain accounts can use different sign-in methods. Some show a provider sign-in page; others may require manual credentials or an app password. Two-factor authentication and workplace security policies can also affect the prompts. Apple notes that account settings vary by account type: Apple’s guide to adding and removing email accounts.
If you changed your password and Mail now reports that it is incorrect, first sign in to the provider’s official website or app to confirm the new password works there. Then return to the account in Mail and complete its sign-in flow. For a work or school account, an administrator may control the required sign-in method or whether you can update credentials yourself.

If Mail still cannot sign in, remove and add the account again
Use this recovery step when the account does not offer a working sign-in prompt or continues to fail after you have confirmed your provider credentials.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Tap the affected account and choose Sign Out or Delete Account, if shown.
- Return to Mail Accounts, tap Add Account, and follow the provider’s setup prompts.
Removing an account from the iPhone removes it from Mail and apps using it; it does not close or cancel the mailbox itself. Apple documents the removal and setup process here. Before removing it, check for drafts or other mail stored only on the phone, as well as account-specific settings you may need to restore.

Find a saved password with the Passwords app
The Passwords app can help you locate a credential saved for a provider’s website or app, but changing the saved entry alone does not change the mailbox password on the provider’s servers.
- Open Passwords and tap All.
- Find and tap the provider account.
- Tap Edit, then Change Password, and complete the change on the provider’s website or in its app.
Apple explains how to view and edit saved passwords in its Passwords guide and how to change a saved password.

Email password and Apple Account password are different
Your Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Exchange, or custom-domain mailbox password belongs to that email provider. Your Apple Account password is for Apple services and is changed separately. To change it, open Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security > Change Password. See Apple’s instructions for changing an Apple Account password.
