Can you order DoorDash by text?
Yes, if you have access to the beta. DoorDash says its AI ordering agent extends Ask DoorDash, its in-app assistant, to iMessage chats. It is a beta rather than a generally available replacement for ordering in the DoorDash app.
The initial rollout is in the United States and works through iMessage on iPhone. DoorDash plans to support Android, but Android availability is not established for this launch.
What can the DoorDash AI agent do?
Request a usual meal or a recommendation
You can describe what you want in ordinary language, such as asking for your usual protein bowl delivered to the office, or ask for restaurant and meal recommendations. DoorDash says the agent can remember dietary preferences and customizations, including requests such as extra sauce, and account for different habits on Friday nights versus the middle of the week.

Build a group order
The agent can also help assemble a group order through the text conversation, rather than requiring everyone to browse restaurant menus separately in the app.

The agent searches for relevant local restaurants and gathers menu information and pictures, then presents a proposed order in the conversation.

DoorDash has not published measured comparisons for ordering speed, order accuracy, or pricing versus using the app. The text flow changes the interface, but the available information does not establish that it is faster, cheaper, or more accurate.

How to join the DoorDash AI beta
Visit doordash.com/text to join the waitlist. The beta is U.S.-only at launch, and its iMessage-based access initially requires an iPhone. Joining the waitlist is not the same as immediate access; availability depends on the beta rollout.
