Yes—but only for a limited group. Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026, and says trusted cyber defenders in its Fairwind Program and Google’s internal teams will receive it without cyber guardrails. That exception is for cybersecurity defense, not a policy for general users. Google has not given a firm date for wider access.
Who gets Gemini 4 Argon first?
The initial rollout is through Google’s Fairwind Program to a set of trusted cyber defenders, alongside Google’s internal teams. Google has not named the Fairwind participants, so the announcement does not establish which outside organizations or individual researchers are included.
Axios separately reported that Google was giving Argon to a small group of cybersecurity partners. It described the model as intended for long-running work in software, finance, legal services, and cybersecurity. That reporting offers context on the rollout’s scale, but it does not identify the participants.
What does “without cyber guardrails” mean?
Google DeepMind SVP and chief AI architect Koray Kavukcuoglu said: “For trusted defenders and our own internal teams at Google, we’ll be releasing Argon without cyber guardrails so they can leverage its full frontier-level cybersecurity defense capabilities.” In other words, Google says these specific groups will get access without the cyber-specific restrictions it would otherwise apply, to let them use the model for defensive work.

- Backup recommended – To ensure continuous access, register a backup Clife security key as a spare in case your primary key is lost.
This is a restricted access arrangement, not a promise that Argon will be released without cyber safeguards to all customers. Google says it is still strengthening protections against cyber or CBRN misuse, indirect prompt injection, and insecure agent environments, and is testing safeguards with internal and external red teams. Those are distinct risks: misuse concerns harmful requests; prompt injection can steer a model through untrusted content; and insecure agent environments can expose systems or data when a model takes actions through tools.
What is Argon supposed to do?
Google positions Gemini 4 Argon as a frontier model for complex software engineering, enterprise knowledge work, and cybersecurity defense. The company says it can autonomously find, validate, and patch critical software vulnerabilities. That is Google’s description of its capabilities, not an independently verified guarantee that Argon will find every flaw or safely patch production systems without human review.

- Hardware-Rooted Security with PUF Technology – PUFido Drive Clife Key uses Physical Unclonable Function technology to generate a unique, hardware-based identity that cannot be duplicated, delivering stronger resistance against tampering and cyber attacks than conventional security keys.
- FIDO2 Certified Phishing-Resistant Protection – Fully compliant with FIDO2/U2F standards, enabling secure passwordless login and two-factor authentication to help protect accounts from phishing and credential theft.
- Security Key + Flash Drive in One Device – Combines a FIDO security key with a built-in USB flash drive, allowing you to carry files and a hardware authentication key together in a single compact device.
- Easy to Use & Portable – Compact USB-C design fits easily on a keychain or in a pocket. Simply plug in the Drive Clife Key to authenticate or access stored files with no extra software required.
- Universal Compatibility – Works with hundreds of FIDO2/U2F compatible services and supports Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and other major platforms.
Google also lists a 1 million-token context limit. A large context can let a model process more material in one interaction, which is relevant to lengthy codebases or extended tasks; it does not by itself establish accuracy, reliability, or how much output a user can generate.
What do the published benchmarks show?
Google reports a 51.3% score on AutomationBench and 91.7% on LVBench. These are company-published results and have not been independently tested in the evidence available here. The figures should not be treated as a direct comparison with other models: no competitor scores or matching test conditions are established here.

- Ultra-Compact FIDO2 Security Key - Plug-and-stay or carry on a keychain. This USB-A hardware security key offers portable, always-on protection for desktop and mobile use. (Item Size: 0.75 X 0.74 IN x 0.25 IN)
- USB-A Hardware Key for All Devices - Works with USB-A ports on PC, Mac, Android, and other laptop/notebook device. Enables secure, cross-platform login with FIDO2.0 passkey support.
- FIDO Certified Security Key - Meets FIDO and FIDO2 standards. Works with Google, Microsoft, GitHub, Dropbox, and more. Please check service compatibility before purchase.
- Passwordless Login with Passkey - Supports passkey login via WebAuthn and CTAP2. Enjoy password-free sign-ins where supported. Not all websites or services currently support passkeys.
- Advanced Multi-Factor Authentication - Offers 200 FIDO2 passkey slots and 50 OATH-TOTP slots. Strong, flexible 2FA/MFA support across various apps and authentication platforms.
The scores provide limited evidence about performance on those benchmarks. They do not, on their own, prove Argon can autonomously secure a real system, resist prompt injection in every environment, or safely run a long sequence of actions. Those questions depend on task conditions and the safeguards around deployment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When can developers, businesses, and consumers use Argon?
Google says wider access will begin with paid Gemini API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. The announcement does not provide a firm public general-release date, so developers and subscribers should not assume access is available now or that a particular launch day is set. It also does not establish pricing, regional availability, or the precise access terms for those customer groups.
