Google Cloud’s Bangkok region launched on January 21, 2026. Listed in the Google Cloud console as Bangkok (asia-southeast3), it gives customers a Thailand-based location for supported cloud storage and processing while connecting them to Google’s wider global network and AI services.
What is Google Cloud’s Bangkok region?
A cloud region is a physical infrastructure location where a provider runs data centers and makes services available. Bangkok (asia-southeast3) is Google Cloud’s first announced region in Thailand. Customers can select it for supported resources when designing applications, data platforms and other workloads.
Google Cloud says the region is intended to provide local data storage and processing, reliability, security and lower latency for users in Thailand. Latency still depends on the user’s network, workload design, service configuration and traffic patterns; choosing Bangkok does not guarantee a particular response time.
When did Google Cloud open its Thailand region?
The Bangkok region was announced as launched on January 21, 2026. The project followed several earlier announcements:

Can you keep data in Thailand with Google Cloud?
Google describes local storage and processing in Bangkok as an option for customers. Whether data actually remains in Thailand depends on the services selected, resource locations, backup and replication settings, support arrangements, network architecture and the application’s own data flows.

What this means for Thailand’s PDPA
Local processing can help an organization design for requirements such as Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Selecting the Bangkok region alone does not make a deployment compliant. Compliance depends on the data involved, the legal basis and notices, supplier terms, access controls, retention, transfers, configuration and the organization’s other legal obligations.
Questions to verify before deployment
- Which specific Google Cloud services support Bangkok, and where do their control-plane, backup and logging functions operate?
- Are replicas, snapshots and disaster-recovery copies restricted to Thailand or sent to another region?
- Do managed AI services transmit prompts, files or telemetry outside Thailand?
- Can the organization document administrators, service accounts and support access?
Does the Bangkok region mean Gemini runs in Thailand?
No. Google presents Bangkok as an on-ramp to its AI ecosystem across the company’s global network, naming Vertex AI and Gemini among the products or models available through that ecosystem. The launch announcement does not establish that every Gemini model, Vertex AI model or inference workload is hosted in Bangkok, nor that every request is processed there.

- HI RESOLUTION VIDEO RECORDING: Record Ultra High Resolution (4K 60fs) videos directly onto the T7 Portable SSD with your favorite camera or mobile devices; Supports iPhone 15 Pro Res 4K at 60fps video and more³
Teams that require geographic controls should check the documentation and contractual terms for the exact model, endpoint, region, data-handling mode and feature they plan to use. Confirm the location of inference, training data, logs and backups rather than treating the presence of a Bangkok cloud region as proof of local model execution.
What cloud and network benefits does Google claim?
Local access
Google says customers can store and process data closer to Thai users and obtain low-latency access to cloud services. Actual performance must be measured for the application’s users and dependencies.
Rank #4
- Capacity Display Variance: 500GB external ssd often appears as around 465GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 500 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage

Global connectivity
Google says its network spans 43 regions and more than 7.75 million kilometers of terrestrial and subsea fiber. The announcement also mentions TalayLink, a submarine cable connecting Australia and Thailand. These are Google’s stated network figures and description, not an independent performance test of a particular Bangkok deployment.
Reliability and security
The company describes the region as supporting reliability and security controls. Availability, failure domains and recovery outcomes depend on the services and architecture a customer chooses. A single-region design is not the same as a disaster-resilient, multi-region design.

Which partners are involved?
Google names Accenture, Beryl8, Deloitte, MFEC and NTT Data as launch partners. Their role is described as engineering and consulting support for customers. Selecting a partner does not replace a customer’s responsibility to validate architecture, security, compliance, costs and service-level requirements.
How much economic impact does Google expect?
Google Cloud projects that the Bangkok region will generate THB 1.4 trillion (US$41 billion) in economic value over five years and support an average of 130,000 jobs per year over that period. These are company-published projections, not independent measurements of benefits already realized.
| Announcement | Scope and period | Projection |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Bangkok launch | Bangkok region; next five years | THB 1.4 trillion (US$41 billion) economic value; 130,000 jobs annually on average |
| 2024 Thailand investment | Earlier national estimate; by 2029 and 2025–2029 | US$4 billion GDP contribution by 2029; 14,000 jobs annually on average |
| 2023 Bangkok location announcement | Earlier estimate; by 2030 | More than US$4.1 billion local GDP contribution; 50,300 jobs in 2030 |
The 2024 and 2023 estimates should not be added to, substituted for or presented as measurements of the 2026 region-specific projection.
Quick Recap
How to evaluate Bangkok for a real workload
- Map data flows. Identify personal, regulated and business-critical data, including logs, backups, telemetry and model prompts.
- Check service availability. Confirm that every required compute, database, storage, networking, security and AI service supports asia-southeast3 or has an acceptable regional design.
- Test user latency. Measure representative requests from actual Thai offices, mobile networks and customers; do not rely on the region label alone.
- Design resilience. Decide whether zonal redundancy is sufficient or whether backups and failover should use another Thai location or a second country, subject to legal requirements.
- Validate security and compliance. Review identity, encryption, key management, access logs, retention, incident response and PDPA obligations for the complete configuration.
- Model total cost. Include compute, storage, egress, inter-region replication, managed-service premiums, support and partner engineering—not only the headline resource price.
- Confirm AI boundaries. For Vertex AI or Gemini, verify model availability, endpoint location, prompt and output handling, logging and retention for the selected configuration.
What the launch does—and does not—establish
- It establishes a launched Google Cloud region identified as Bangkok (asia-southeast3).
- It gives customers a Thailand-based option for supported storage and processing.
- It does not guarantee a fixed latency, universal service availability or automatic PDPA compliance.
- It does not prove that every Gemini or Vertex AI workload executes inside Thailand.
- It does not independently verify Google’s projected economic or employment effects.
