Google Meet and Microsoft Teams can now join each other’s meetings from supported conference-room systems, but this is not general app-to-app compatibility. The initial support paired ChromeOS-based Google Meet Rooms joining Teams meetings with Windows-based Microsoft Teams Rooms joining Meet meetings. Google later announced an Android/AOSP expansion that was in Early Preview for enrolled devices in Rapid Release domains as of September 2, 2026.
Which Google Meet and Teams room systems can join each other?
The supported direction depends on the room system and its operating system:
| Room system | Meeting it can join | Availability described by Google |
|---|---|---|
| ChromeOS-based Google Meet hardware | Microsoft Teams meeting | Part of the initial built-in feature announced February 3, 2026, for Workspace customers with Meet hardware. |
| Windows-based Microsoft Teams Rooms | Google Meet meeting | Part of the initial built-in feature announced February 3, 2026. |
| Android/AOSP-based Meet hardware and Teams Rooms devices | Meet and Teams meetings in both directions | Google announced this extension September 2, 2026. At announcement, it was in Early Preview for enrolled devices in Rapid Release domains. |
Google described the initial room-hardware interoperability as generally available in its June 2026 Workspace overview. That status does not make every platform generally available: the Android/AOSP extension was still identified as Early Preview in September. Check the current status for the specific device and organization before relying on it.
Can Google Meet join Microsoft Teams meetings?
Yes, from supported Google Meet room hardware: ChromeOS-based Meet Rooms were included in the initial release, and eligible Android/AOSP Meet hardware was added in the September Early Preview expansion. Schedule the room on a Google Calendar event
- Add the Meet hardware room to a Google Calendar event that contains the Teams meeting details. The room’s schedule should then display the call for joining.
- If the invitation came from an external event or another scheduling product, copy the event into Google Calendar if needed before adding the room.
- Join from the room when the meeting appears. The Teams meeting starts when its host joins.
Enter the Teams meeting details on the room
- Choose the Teams option on the room device.
- Enter the Teams meeting ID and, if prompted, the passcode.
- Wait for the host to join to start the meeting.
Google cautions that “Some Teams features might not work” when joining from Meet hardware. Its instructions do not identify which features are affected, so feature parity should not be assumed.
Can a Teams Room join a Google Meet?
Yes. The initial built-in interoperability includes Windows-based Microsoft Teams Rooms joining Google Meet meetings. Google’s September 2026 announcement also extended both directions to Android/AOSP-based Teams Rooms devices in Early Preview, for devices enrolled in the program in Rapid Release domains. The available instructions describe the Meet-to-Teams workflow; follow the room’s current on-screen options and administrator guidance when joining in the reverse direction.

Does Meet and Teams interoperability work on mobile or in a browser?
No—not through this room-hardware feature. Google’s interoperability FAQ says people cannot use the Google Meet web or mobile clients to join Teams meetings through this capability. The Calendar app may display a structured “Join video call” button for supported third-party invitations, but that is an invitation-handling improvement, not Meet mobile or web joining a Teams call.
Google announced the Calendar changes on August 27, 2026. For outgoing Google Calendar invitations, Calendar can place a third-party conferencing URL in the Location field. For incoming invitations, it can extract the URL, meeting ID, and passcode or PIN into conference details, with a join button in Calendar on the web, Android, and iOS. Google said the change required no administrator control and would be available by default for supported Teams, Zoom, and Webex links, with rollout starting August 27. How does the rollout work for administrators?
For the initial feature, Google said the administrator setting would be on by default and could be disabled at the organizational-unit level. On Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, visibility of the admin setting was expected to roll out one to three days after February 3, 2026. End-user visibility was scheduled to start February 16, with gradual rollout taking up to 15 days. These were Google’s rollout estimates for that release, not a guarantee about an organization’s present configuration. Google also said the built-in feature would not replace existing Pexip settings for organizational units already using them. Details are in Google’s rollout announcement.
The Android/AOSP extension has a separate availability condition: devices must be enrolled in Early Preview, and the announcement specified Rapid Release domains. Administrators should confirm enrollment and current availability instead of assuming an Android room system is enabled automatically.

Is Meet and Teams room interoperability free, and do you need Pexip?
Google says its built-in Meet hardware interoperability for Teams, Zoom, and Webex is included at no additional charge for Meet hardware customers. A Pexip subscription is not required for this built-in Meet/Teams room feature.
Pexip is a separate, licensed option for organizations that need SIP or Pexip-based interoperability. Google says Pexip Connect for Google Rooms must be licensed from Pexip, and Pexip-based systems require a Pexip or partner license. See Google’s information on built-in interoperability and Google’s Pexip guidance.

- Confirm the endpoint and operating system. The established initial pairing is ChromeOS Meet hardware to Teams and Windows Teams Rooms to Meet; Android/AOSP was described as Early Preview in September 2026.
- Check the organization’s rollout and enrollment. The Android/AOSP preview requires enrolled devices and a Rapid Release domain, while administrators can disable the initial feature at the organizational-unit level.
- Choose a join route. Calendar-scheduled one-touch joining depends on the event and room appearing on the device schedule. Manual joining uses the meeting ID and may request a passcode.
- Plan for feature differences. Google warns that some Teams features might not work, but does not enumerate them.
- Separate room support from calendar support. Calendar can help surface third-party meeting details without making Meet’s web or mobile clients interoperable with Teams.
Google has not established a feature-by-feature limitations comparison across ChromeOS, Windows, and Android/AOSP in the cited guidance. Verify exact device-model compatibility and current rollout status with the organization’s administrator before planning deployment.
