There is no single official Google Web Search MCP server for searching the whole public web. If you mean live Google results inside an AI assistant, HasData documents a hosted, third-party Google Search MCP service. Google’s own MCP offerings have different scopes: Developer Knowledge searches Google product documentation, while Google Cloud MCP services expose tools for working with Google Cloud resources.
This distinction matters when choosing a server: a live public-web results feed is not the same thing as a search tool for Google’s developer docs or an assistant that can operate cloud resources.
What a Google Web Search MCP server does
MCP, or Model Context Protocol, lets an AI application connect to a server that supplies context, data, or capabilities. In this case, a Google Web Search MCP server is typically a bridge between an AI client and a search service: the client calls a tool, and the server returns search results in a form the model can use.
HasData describes its service as a hosted remote MCP server for parsed, live Google results. Its documented endpoint is https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=google_serp. The service advertises eight read-only Google Search tools covering result types such as the regular search-results page, AI Overview, People Also Ask, news, shopping, product details, and short videos. The exact tool names and schemas should be taken from the current service documentation rather than inferred from those result categories.

“Read-only” describes the advertised search tools’ action model: they retrieve information rather than perform actions on your behalf. It does not mean that results are guaranteed complete, authoritative, or unchanged over time. Search results can vary, and an AI assistant may summarize or misinterpret what the server returns.
Is there an official Google Search MCP server?
Not for general public-web Google Search, according to HasData’s README, which states that Google publishes no MCP server and no general search API. That is different from Google publishing MCP services for its own developer documentation and cloud products.
| Option | What it searches or does | Connection and access model |
|---|---|---|
| HasData Google Search MCP | Live Google SERP results and advertised result types including AI Overview, news, shopping, People Also Ask, product details, and short videos. | Remote streamable HTTP endpoint with an x-api-key header. HasData also describes launcher packages for clients limited to local stdio. |
| Google Developer Knowledge MCP | Searches Google developer-product documentation through the search_documents tool; its documented core tools also include get_documents and answer_query. |
Global endpoint: https://developerknowledge.googleapis.com/mcp. Google documents API-key authentication for third-party IDEs and CLI agents, and OAuth or application-default credentials for supported workflows. |
| Google Cloud remote MCP services | Expose Google Cloud services and resource capabilities; these are not a general public-web search server. | Google documents discovery, toolsets, administrative controls, authentication and authorization, IAM policies, and Model Armor scanning for Google-managed services. Billing is service-specific, not one universal MCP price. |
| Cloud CLI remote MCP server | Connects an AI application to Cloud CLI capabilities through the Cloud CLI Execution API; it is not a general web-search endpoint. | Google documents a remote HTTP option alongside local stdio servers. |
Google describes an MCP server as a proxy between an external service that provides context, data, or capabilities and an LLM or AI application. See its Developer Knowledge MCP reference and Google Cloud remote MCP overview for the scopes and controls of Google-managed offerings.
How to connect a live Google Search MCP service
The HasData setup described here is for a client that supports remote streamable HTTP MCP servers. Client menus and configuration formats differ, so use the client’s current instructions for adding a remote server; do not paste a guessed JSON configuration into an application that expects a different format.

- Choose the live-search service. Confirm that you want public-web Google results, rather than Google developer documentation or Google Cloud operations.
- Get an API key from the service provider. HasData documents the
x-api-keyauthentication header. Keep the key private and store it in the client’s secret or credential field when available. - Add a remote MCP server in your AI client. Enter
https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=google_serpas the server endpoint and configure thex-api-keyheader using the key supplied by HasData. The client must support the documented remote streamable HTTP transport. - Connect and inspect available tools. After the client connects, review the tools and their input fields as the client displays them. Start with a simple query, then confirm that the returned content is live search output rather than a model-generated answer without a tool call.
- Test the result against the task. Ask for a specific result type only if the connected server exposes a corresponding tool. For example, a news search or an AI Overview request should not be assumed to work merely because the server advertises those result categories; inspect the actual available tool definitions.
HasData says its free tier includes 1,000 credits per month with no payment card required. Treat credits as the provider’s usage unit: the available information does not establish that every tool call consumes exactly one credit, so check the current account and product terms for the applicable usage rules.
When the client only supports local stdio
A local-stdio-only client cannot connect directly to a remote HTTP server in the same way as a client that supports remote streamable HTTP. HasData says it offers launcher packages for these clients, but package names, install commands, and client-specific configuration are not established here. Use the provider’s current launcher instructions and verify the package source before installing or granting it an API key.
When to choose each Google-related MCP option
Choose HasData for public-web search results
Use the hosted Google Search MCP when the task calls for live public-web SERP data or its advertised result types. This is a third-party service, not a Google-operated general search API. Consider the provider’s authentication, credit accounting, data handling, and service terms before sending sensitive queries.
Choose Developer Knowledge for Google product documentation
Use Google Developer Knowledge when you need to find or retrieve Google developer-product documentation, or ask questions grounded in that documentation. Its tools—search_documents, get_documents, and answer_query—serve a more curated documentation use case than a whole-web SERP.

Use a Google Cloud MCP service when the intended task is interacting with Google Cloud resources through tools. Its governance and security controls are relevant to administrative and organizational use, but should not be assumed to apply to HasData or another unrelated third-party server. Check the specific service’s permissions and potential effects before enabling tools that can change resources.
Security, freshness, and reliability considerations
- Protect credentials. An API key in an MCP client can authorize use of the service. Avoid sharing screenshots, logs, or configuration files that expose it; rotate it if it is accidentally disclosed.
- Review tool permissions. Read-only search tools and tools that can operate cloud resources have materially different risk. Enable only the server and capabilities needed for the task.
- Validate important claims. Search results are discovery material, not proof. Open the underlying sources and check dates, context, and whether a result supports the claim before relying on an AI summary.
- Expect result variability. Live search output can differ with query wording, time, and search conditions. For repeatable workflows, record the query and relevant returned sources rather than assuming a future call will return the same ordering.
- Account for provider limits. The documented HasData free allowance is 1,000 credits per month; credit consumption per individual tool call is not specified here. Google Cloud billing is tied to the relevant service, not a universal MCP subscription.
Troubleshooting connection and result problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The client cannot connect to the server. | The client may not support remote streamable HTTP, or the endpoint may have been entered incorrectly. | Confirm the client’s supported transport and use the exact HasData endpoint, including its query string. If the client is limited to stdio, follow HasData’s launcher documentation instead of treating the remote endpoint as a local command. |
| Authentication fails. | The API key may be missing, invalid, or configured under the wrong header. | Check that the configured header is x-api-key, re-enter the provider-issued key, and ensure the client is not stripping custom headers. |
| The server connects but no search tool appears. | The connection may not have completed tool discovery, or the client may display tools only after reconnecting. | Reconnect or refresh the server entry, then inspect the client’s MCP tool list. Compare the tools shown there with the provider’s current documentation. |
| A query returns an error or no useful results. | The query may be malformed, a requested result type may not be exposed by the connected tool, or the provider may be rejecting the request. | Start with a plain, short search query using the tool’s documented input schema. Check provider status, account access, and credit availability if the service reports a provider-side error. |
| The client uses local stdio and rejects the URL. | A URL is not a local executable command, and stdio clients expect a process launcher. | Use the service’s documented local launcher package and the client-specific setup steps. Do not invent a package command or pass the API key to an unverified executable. |
| The result differs from a browser search. | Search output can vary, and the MCP service returns its parsed response rather than guaranteeing an identical browser rendering. | Check the query, result type, and timestamp; open relevant underlying pages before treating a discrepancy as a factual contradiction. |
Or skip the browser setup
If your actual task is capturing a clean webpage image or PDF—not asking an AI assistant for Google search results—ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server made by Yorker Media. It does not replace a Google Search MCP server; it is the alternative to try first when the job is capturing a page.
One GET request returns a screenshot or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the API details.
cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
- Cookie and consent banners are accepted like a visitor, then removed, along with known newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status.
- An MCP server provides
take_screenshot,get_page_info, andcapture_pdftools for AI agents. - The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
