For most Firefox users, you do not need an extension: open the page menu, choose Print, select Save to PDF, adjust the preview settings, and save the file. Firefox already handles page ranges, orientation, margins, scale, backgrounds and, on supported pages, Simplified format. Extensions are worth considering when you need a toolbar button, a keyboard shortcut or a service-specific workflow.
This guide compares the practical choices without claiming that any add-on produces universally better PDFs. No independent, named comparison test established a winner for fidelity, speed, accessibility, long pages or privacy.
Firefox’s built-in converter is the best starting point
Mozilla documents the native workflow in its Firefox printing guide. It is local to the browser’s print flow, so there is no extension to install and no extra service permission to review.
- Open the webpage you want to preserve.
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Print (or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on macOS).
- In the print preview, choose Save to PDF as the destination.
- Set the page range, orientation, margins and scale. Enable background graphics when the design depends on colors or images.
- If Firefox offers Simplified format, compare it with the original preview. Simplified output can remove navigation and other clutter, but it is conditional on page support.
- Choose Save, select a filename and confirm the destination.
Print output is a rendering of the page, not a guarantee that every on-screen interaction or layout will survive unchanged. Check page breaks, wide tables, sticky navigation, charts and lazy-loaded images in the preview before saving.
Which Firefox extensions are worth considering?
| Option | What it does | Important limits or cautions | Listing evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firefox Print > Save to PDF | Native preview with page range, orientation, margins, scale, backgrounds and conditional Simplified format. | Printed layout can differ from the live page; no one-click toolbar action. | Mozilla Support, updated August 22, 2024. |
| Print PDF by Senthil Ponnusamy | Toolbar button and configurable keyboard shortcut; its listing says it uses Firefox’s built-in converter. Settings include margins, headers/footers, backgrounds and long-page handling. | Version 2.0 was listed as last updated February 16, 2023. Check the current compatibility, permissions and maintenance status before installing. | Mozilla Add-ons listing. |
| Save as PDF by PDFCrowd | Toolbar action backed by PDFCrowd’s online HTML-to-PDF service. | The listing says it cannot process pages requiring a login. It requests access to data for pdfcrowd.com, so review data handling before sending sensitive pages. | Mozilla Add-ons listing; version 2.2, last updated June 12, 2025. |
| Print to PDF by moris | Toolbar button and right-click context-menu action with print settings. | The listing’s February 16, 2023 update date is old. Its Firefox 56-and-later requirement does not prove current compatibility or active maintenance. | Mozilla Add-ons listing. |
1. Print PDF: the shortcut-oriented local option
If your only complaint is that opening the print dialog takes too many clicks, Print PDF is the most directly relevant candidate. Its Mozilla Add-ons description says it invokes Firefox’s own converter and adds a toolbar action, keyboard shortcut and controls for margins, headers and footers, backgrounds and long pages.
#1 Best Overall
- Scanner type: Document
- Connectivity technology: USB
- With Auto Scan Mode, the scanner automatically detects what you're scanning
- Digitize documents and images
That description does not establish better PDF quality than Firefox itself: it is using the same conversion path, and no independent output test was identified. The listing surfaced for this comparison reports version 2.0 and a February 16, 2023 update. Before installing, open the live listing and verify its current version, supported Firefox releases, requested permissions and recent maintenance.
2. Save as PDF by PDFCrowd: an online conversion service
PDFCrowd’s add-on takes a different path. Its listing says the toolbar action sends the page to PDFCrowd’s online HTML-to-PDF service. That can be useful when you specifically want the service’s conversion workflow, but it changes the privacy and access decision compared with Firefox’s native print flow.
Pages it cannot process
The listing explicitly says it cannot create PDFs from pages that require a login. Do not assume that being logged in to Firefox makes a protected page usable by the service; the stated limitation is a reason to keep authenticated or confidential material in the native workflow unless you have separately verified an appropriate secure process.

Permission and data review
The extension requires access to data for pdfcrowd.com. Read the current permission disclosure and PDFCrowd’s terms before using it for customer records, internal dashboards, private messages or other sensitive content. An online conversion service may also behave differently from a local print preview when scripts, fonts or session state are involved.

3. Print to PDF by moris: toolbar and context-menu convenience
This add-on advertises both a toolbar button and a right-click action, plus print settings. The listing identifies the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and says Firefox 56 or later is required. Those details describe the published package, not a current support guarantee. The surfaced listing was last updated February 16, 2023, so treat it as a convenience candidate to evaluate rather than a maintained standard.
How to choose without guessing
Choose native Firefox when
- You need a straightforward PDF and can use the print preview.
- The page contains private or login-protected information.
- You want to avoid add-on permissions and third-party processing.
- You need to inspect page ranges, margins, scale and backgrounds before saving.
Choose a local shortcut add-on when
- A toolbar button or keyboard shortcut saves meaningful time every day.
- You are comfortable checking an older listing’s current compatibility and permissions.
- You understand that a shortcut does not automatically improve rendering fidelity.
Choose PDFCrowd’s add-on when
- You intentionally want an online HTML-to-PDF service.
- The page does not require a login and your data policy allows online processing.
- You have reviewed the extension’s pdfcrowd.com access permission and the service’s current terms.
Getting cleaner PDFs from any Firefox workflow
Preview before saving
Look for clipped columns, unexpected blank pages, headers covering text and images that have not loaded. Change orientation to landscape for wide tables, reduce scale for oversized layouts, and set a deliberate page range instead of exporting an entire article by accident.
Decide whether backgrounds matter
Background graphics can preserve colored panels, diagrams and visual branding, but they increase ink and file size when printed. Enable them only when they contribute to the document you need.
Handle long or dynamic pages
Scroll through the page once before opening Print so lazy-loaded content has a chance to appear. Pages that continually change, use infinite scrolling or depend on hover states may still print differently from what you saw on screen. Save a stable, fully loaded view where possible.

Edit before printing
When the problem is unwanted navigation, advertising or a particular element, browser printing may not give you enough control. Mozilla’s support material points to Print Edit WE as a content-editing option, but this comparison did not establish its current listing details; verify its present permissions and compatibility yourself.
Troubleshooting common failures
The PDF is blank or missing images
Return to the page, wait for images and charts to load, then reopen Print. Try enabling background graphics. If the page requires a session, avoid sending it to an online converter; use Firefox’s native flow.
Text is cut off on the right
Use landscape orientation, reduce scale, or narrow the page’s content with a supported Simplified view. Wide tables and fixed-position elements are common causes.

Disable them in the print settings. If an extension exposes separate header/footer controls, check those as well; an add-on’s defaults can differ from Firefox’s current dialog.

The extension button does nothing
Open the add-on’s current Mozilla listing and check whether the page type is supported, whether Firefox blocked a permission, and whether the extension is compatible with your release. Try the native Print command to distinguish an extension problem from a page-rendering problem.
PDFCrowd rejects the page
The listing’s stated limitation is login-required pages. Use Firefox’s local Save to PDF for authenticated content, and do not submit confidential material to an online service unless your policy permits it.
