There is normally no separate Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in installer. For classic Outlook for Windows, installing the Teams desktop client installs and registers the add-in when the Outlook and account requirements are met. Sign in to Teams with the work or school account associated with your Outlook mailbox, then start Teams before Outlook.
New Outlook for Windows does not support the COM add-in. It has native Teams integration: use the Teams meeting toggle in the event window instead.
Before installing the Teams Meeting Add-in
Use this checklist to identify which instructions apply to your setup:

For the classic add-in, Microsoft lists the Teams desktop client, Outlook 2016 or later with current updates, and Teams sign-in and licensing among the requirements. Use the work or school account associated with your Outlook mailbox; account eligibility and organizational policy can also affect availability.

Download and install Teams for the Outlook add-in
- Open Microsoft’s Teams download page.
- Select Download Microsoft Teams for Windows. Do not search for a separate “Teams Meeting Add-in” download; normal users do not install the add-in as a standalone package.
- Run the downloaded Teams installer and complete the installation.
- Start Microsoft Teams and sign in with the work or school account associated with your Outlook mailbox.
- Fully quit Outlook if it was open. Then start Teams first and wait for it to finish loading.
- Start classic Outlook and open Calendar.
- Create a new meeting or appointment. Look for New Teams Meeting on the Outlook ribbon.
Starting Teams before Outlook is Microsoft’s recommended recovery sequence. If Outlook was already running during installation, fully quit both applications and repeat the startup sequence.
Check whether the add-in is installed in classic Outlook
- Open classic Outlook.
- Select File > Options.
- Select Add-ins.
- Look for Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.
If it appears under Active Application Add-ins, Outlook has loaded it. Go to Calendar and check for New Teams Meeting.
If it appears under Disabled Application Add-ins, Outlook has disabled it rather than removed it. Enable it as follows:
- At the bottom of the Add-ins page, set Manage to COM Add-ins.
- Select Go.
- Select the checkbox for Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.
- Select OK on each open dialog.
- Restart Outlook.
Some Outlook builds provide a quicker recovery option. Select File > Manage COM Add-ins, expand Options for the Teams add-in, and select Do not monitor this add-in for the next 30 days. If that option is unavailable, choose Always enable this add-in.

Repair a missing add-in after moving to new Teams
After switching to new Teams, the Teams Meeting button may disappear from the classic Outlook calendar and the add-in may be absent from the COM Add-ins list. Microsoft attributes this issue to an unsuccessful add-in installation during the Teams upgrade.

Try Microsoft’s basic repair sequence:
- Right-click the Windows Start button and select Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Search for Teams Meeting Add-in.
- Select the three dots next to the entry and choose Uninstall.
- Close Outlook.
- Right-click the Teams icon in the Windows system tray and select Quit.
- Start new Teams again and sign in if prompted.
- Wait until Teams Meeting Add-in appears again under Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Restart Outlook and check the calendar.
If the add-in does not return, Microsoft documents a version-specific procedure for administrators. In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, check the installed Teams Meeting Add-in version:
- If no entry exists, or the version starts with 1.23, Microsoft directs administrators to download and run UninstallOldTMA.ps1 from an elevated PowerShell window.
- If the version does not start with 1.23, Microsoft directs administrators to download and run UninstallTMA.ps1 from a normal PowerShell window.
After the script finishes, start new Teams, wait for the add-in to reappear in Installed apps, and restart Outlook. Microsoft documents these uninstall-and-reinstall instructions for non-VDI environments. Ask your IT administrator before running PowerShell scripts on a managed computer.
Manually register the Teams Outlook loader
Use manual registration only after the normal installation and repair steps fail. You need to know whether your installed Office applications are 32-bit or 64-bit. This is the Office bitness, not necessarily the Windows bitness.

- In File Explorer, enter
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddinin the address bar. - Open the version-numbered folder. If multiple folders have the same version, use the one with the highest build number. A folder may look like
1.0.23334.11. - Copy the full path to that version folder.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run the command for your Office installation.
For 64-bit Office:
%SystemRoot%\System32\regsvr32.exe /n /i:user "<path copied in step 3>\x64\Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll"
For 32-bit Office:

Replace the placeholder, including the angle brackets, with the actual folder path. Keep the DLL path in quotation marks if it contains spaces. When registration is complete, restart Teams, sign out of Teams and sign back in, then restart Outlook. Outlook must not be running as administrator. If registration succeeds but the button is still absent, check the privilege settings below.
Check the registry LoadBehavior value
This step is for experienced users or administrators. Editing the registry incorrectly can affect Office applications, so export the relevant key before changing it.
- Press Windows key + R, type
regedit.exe, and press Enter. - Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\TeamsAddin.FastConnect. - Find the
LoadBehaviorvalue. - It should be set to
3. - If it has another value, edit it, enter
3, and restart Outlook.
On managed computers, an administrator may also enforce the Configure trusted add-ins policy. In that case, Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll must be included in the trusted-add-in list. If the policy uses a file hash, the hash must be maintained when Teams updates the DLL.
Fix Outlook and Teams privilege mismatches
The add-in may fail to appear when Outlook runs as administrator but Teams does not. Check both application shortcuts:
- Right-click the Outlook shortcut and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Make sure Run this program as an administrator is unchecked.
- Repeat the check for Teams.
- Quit and restart Teams first, then restart Outlook.
Microsoft recommends that both applications run at the same privilege level. In particular, do not start Outlook with Run as administrator for ordinary use.

New Outlook: use the built-in Teams control
New Outlook for Windows does not support the Teams COM add-in. Installing, registering, or repairing Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll will not add a button to new Outlook.

- Open new Outlook and create a calendar event.

- Turn on the toggle to add Teams meeting details.
Outlook and Teams must be signed in with the same work or school account, and the new Teams client must be installed and in use.
If the toggle is missing, reinitialize the connection:
- Close Outlook.
- Right-click the Teams icon in the toolbar and select Quit Teams.
- Start Teams and sign in.
- Start Outlook and create a new event.
Why the Teams add-in still may not appear

Outlook can disable the add-in automatically after detecting a startup or performance problem. A tenant administrator can also disable it, even though it is enabled by default in supported configurations.
For classic Outlook on Windows 10 or later, Microsoft’s Teams add-in troubleshooter is available through the Windows Get Help application. Run it on the same computer as classic Outlook. It does not apply to new Outlook.

Special cases
Some problems are not solved by reinstalling the client:
- Delegated scheduling: when a delegate schedules a meeting for a delegator whose mailbox is hidden from the Global Address List, the invitation may lack the Teams URL, meeting ID, passcode, or dial-in numbers.
- Virtual desktop infrastructure: the standard post-upgrade uninstall-and-reinstall process is documented for non-VDI environments. VDI deployments need the organization’s supported Teams and Office configuration.
- Managed devices: application control, trusted-add-in policies, or endpoint security software may prevent registration. Contact IT rather than bypassing those controls.
FAQ
Can I download the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in separately?
Usually, no. Install the Teams desktop client from Microsoft’s Teams download page. It installs and registers the Outlook add-in when supported Outlook and account requirements are met.
Why is the Teams button missing from classic Outlook?
The add-in may be disabled, Teams may not be running, registration may have failed after a Teams update, Outlook and Teams may use different accounts, or an organization policy may block it. Check File > Options > Add-ins first.
Does the Teams web app install the Outlook add-in?
No. The classic Outlook COM add-in requires the Teams desktop client. Using Teams only in a browser is not sufficient.
Does new Outlook support the Teams COM add-in?
