Microsoft released its April 2024 Windows security updates on April 9. The applicable package depends on your Windows version: Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 received KB5036893, Windows 11 21H2 received KB5036894, and Windows 10 22H2 received KB5036892. These identifiers and builds describe the release at that time; they do not establish whether a device or version is supported today.
What is the April 2024 Windows security update?
It is Microsoft’s April 9, 2024 monthly security release for Windows. The main Windows packages were cumulative operating-system updates, with different KB numbers and resulting OS builds depending on the version installed. Microsoft’s KB5036893 notes describe security improvements to internal OS functionality and say that Windows 11 22H2 includes improvements previously delivered in KB5035942; Windows 11 23H2 includes the 22H2 improvements. See Microsoft’s KB5036893 release notes for the package’s details.
Microsoft directs readers to its Security Update Guide for vulnerability-specific information. The release materials referenced here do not establish a reliable Windows-only vulnerability total, actively exploited count, or full severity breakdown, so no such figure is included. Consult the April 2024 MSRC release record for vulnerability entries.
Which April 2024 update applies to Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Use the installed Windows version and resulting build to identify the historical package. The Windows 10 LTSC build below is the LTSC entry listed for KB5036892; it is not a claim that every LTSC release received the same package.
