If Microsoft Edge keeps logging you out, first check whether it deletes cookies and other site data whenever you close the browser. Microsoft says that setting signs you out of most sites. If it is off, check whether cookies are blocked, then narrow the problem to one website, one Edge profile, or more than one browser.

1. Stop Edge from deleting cookies when it closes

Cookies can store information a website uses to remember your sign-in. When Edge deletes them, your website session may end. Open Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear every time you close the browser. Turn off Cookies and other site data if you want sites to retain your sessions. Microsoft says that with this option enabled, Edge removes cookies and other site data at close and signs users out of most sites. Microsoft’s cookie instructions cover this setting.

2. Make sure cookies are allowed

If Edge is not deleting cookies at close, check whether it blocks them. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies and verify that Allow sites to save and read cookie data is enabled if you want sites to remember your sign-in. If only one website is affected, inspect its entry in the allowed and blocked lists and allow it if appropriate. Microsoft notes that blocking cookies can prevent some sites from working correctly.

3. Check stored data for the affected website

For a single-site problem, inspect that site’s data before clearing browser-wide data. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies > See all cookies and site data, search for the website, and review its stored data. You can delete only that site’s data and then sign in again to test whether the problem returns. Deleting it ends the existing session and may reset site preferences. See Microsoft’s cookie and site-data guidance.

4. Confirm you are using the intended Edge profile

Select the profile icon in Edge and check which profile is active. Edge profiles can have separate settings and preferences, so a site may behave differently in another profile. If you use more than one, open the site in the profile you expect to use and compare the result with another profile. Microsoft explains how to sign in and create multiple profiles.

5. Distinguish Edge sign-in from a website sign-in

Signing in to Edge and turning on sync manages browser data across devices, such as favorites, passwords, history, and settings. It does not by itself keep you signed in to every website: a website’s session depends on its own account and site data, including cookies. So you can remain signed in to your Edge profile while a website logs you out. For details, see Microsoft’s guides to Edge sync and cookies in Edge.

6. If several websites still log you out, isolate the problem

  1. Test another Edge profile. If the sites remain signed in there, investigate the original profile’s settings and extensions.
  2. Test another browser. If the same sites log you out there too, the issue may be specific to the sites or the device environment rather than Edge.
  3. Check extensions. If the problem occurs only in one Edge profile, investigate its extensions and test whether disabling them changes the behavior.

These comparisons help narrow the scope; they do not identify a cause without the test results. Microsoft’s general Edge troubleshooting guidance includes disabling extensions and checking whether a page works in another browser.

Be deliberate before clearing browser data

Clearing all browsing data can sign you out of websites and remove other stored information. If Edge sync is active, deleting synced data may also remove it from other synced devices. For a login problem on one site, start by inspecting that site’s data instead of clearing everything. Microsoft describes the available data types and clearing scope in its browser-history and data-removal guidance and explains the effects of syncing Edge across devices.
