What happened to HoloLens 2?
Microsoft says HoloLens devices were no longer manufactured as of December 2024. That ended production, not necessarily every sale: Japan Business Systems said on November 14, 2024, that sales would stop when distributor inventory ran out. There was no single universal final sales date in that notice.
The distinction matters if you are looking for a headset. Any remaining units would depend on stock held by distributors or sellers, and the sources do not establish current availability, condition, or warranty coverage.
Is there a HoloLens 3 or other successor?
Japan Business Systems reported on September 30, 2024, that Microsoft had announced no successor. That is a time-bounded report, not confirmation of Microsoft’s unpublished plans or a guarantee that it will never announce another device. Microsoft’s HoloLens materials reviewed here continue to focus on HoloLens 2, but that alone cannot establish what the company may do in the future.

Microsoft’s support materials list device and programming help and a mixed-reality partner directory. Those are support and services routes, not evidence of a direct replacement headset.
When do HoloLens 2 updates and support end?
Microsoft’s release notes say monthly security servicing updates continue through December 2027. The final feature release was the November 2024 update; later servicing is not the same as a promise of new features.

A separate date applies to a specific UK regulatory scope: Microsoft lists February 28, 2028, as the minimum security-update period for units purchased through February 28, 2025, for UK PSTI purposes. This is distinct from the general monthly-servicing endpoint of December 2027 and should not be treated as extending that general servicing statement.

Possibly, if a seller still has units, but manufacturing has ended and sales were tied to remaining distributor inventory. Check whether a listing is new or used, what accessories are included, whether the device is covered by a seller warranty, and what return terms apply. Do not assume an online listing means Microsoft is still producing or directly selling the headset.
What should an organization evaluate instead?
There is no verified successor identified in the cited information. Before choosing another mixed-reality device, check whether it can run the organization’s applications and workflows, how it connects and operates, what its display and field of view support, and whether its tracking and input methods fit the work.
