If you want a cozy witch game to play while you wait for Witchbrook, start with Little Witch in the Woods for an apprentice’s forest adventures or Wylde Flowers for a coven, farming and character stories. Witchbrook itself is not out yet: Chucklefish announced a planned release date of January 28, 2027. The games below are available on Steam now, although REKA is still in Early Access. None reproduces the whole mix announced for Witchbrook—classes, spells, a small witch business, relationships, home customization and online co-op for up to four players—so the best choice depends on which part appeals to you most.

What is Witchbrook, and what should a similar game match?
Witchbrook is an upcoming magic-life sim from Chucklefish, planned for January 28, 2027. Its Steam listing is for a planned release, not a game available to play today. The publisher’s announcement describes a combination of college classes and exams, spells and potions, running a small witch business, building friendships and romances, customizing a home and garden, and online co-op for as many as four players. The date and feature description come from Chucklefish’s release announcement; the Steam listing also shows the game as planned.
That mix matters when choosing an alternative. A game can feel witchy without offering a magic-school routine; another can have spells but focus on farming, dialogue, exploration or automation instead. Treat the picks here as matches for particular parts of the pitch, not as substitutes that reproduce every announced feature. In particular, the available data does not establish co-op for these alternatives, and it would be misleading to assume that they share Witchbrook’s multiplayer plans.
The practical distinctions are: whether you want to play as a learner or an established supernatural character; how central spellcraft is; whether you prefer gardening, quests, relationships or exploration; and whether you want a complete release or are comfortable with Early Access. The sections below make those tradeoffs explicit.

Which cozy witch game is closest to an apprentice-witch story?
Little Witch in the Woods — best apprentice-witch match
Choose Little Witch in the Woods if the part of Witchbrook that appeals to you is learning magic while helping people. You play Ellie, an apprentice who explores a mystical forest, collects materials, crafts potions to solve problems, helps villagers and decorates her home. Its magic is part of the activity loop rather than just a setting detail: gathering ingredients and making useful potions connect exploration with the work of an apprentice.
That focus makes it the most direct pick here for the apprentice-witch fantasy, but it is not a campus-life replica. The supplied Steam listing describes a forest and village-centered adventure, not college classes, exams or online co-op. Steam identifies it as single-player. Its full release date is September 14, 2025; it previously entered Early Access on May 16, 2022. Check its Steam page for the current listing and release details.
Among these options, this is the clearest starting point if your priority is being a witch in training rather than farming as a broader lifestyle sim. If you care more about a community, a coven and relationship-building than the apprentice setup, Wylde Flowers is a better fit.

Which game is best for a coven, farming and character stories?
Wylde Flowers — best coven and character-story match
Wylde Flowers centers on Tara, who farms in Fairhaven, bonds with its residents and a coven, and learns spells and potions. That combination makes it the strongest option here for someone who wants witchcraft and relationships woven into a farming-and-community story. The characters have English voice acting, which supports its story-led identity and distinguishes it from a game focused chiefly on gardening systems or exploration.
It is not a magic-school game: the appeal is becoming involved with a community and coven, not attending classes and exams. Steam lists it as single-player, so it is also not a match for players who specifically want to play with friends in online co-op. Its Steam release date is September 20, 2022. See the Steam listing for its description and current storefront information.
Pick it over Little Witch in the Woods if relationships and a coven are the draw; pick the latter if you want the more explicit apprentice-and-potion-making premise. Neither choice delivers every announced feature of Witchbrook, but they serve different parts of its appeal.

Which game makes gardening itself feel magical?
Ritual of Raven — best magical-gardening twist
Ritual of Raven is the best fit if you want witchcraft expressed through gardening systems rather than a conventional farm routine. You apprentice under the witch Sage, use rituals to deal with unstable portals, and enchant Arcana Constructs to take care of herb-garden tasks. The magical helpers are the distinctive idea: the game is designed around assigning garden work to enchanted constructs instead of planting and harvesting everything manually.
Spellgarden Games and Team17’s Steam description says the game includes 22 collectible Arcana Constructs. That figure describes the game’s garden helpers, not the number of spells or crops. If hands-on farming is the activity you want, that automation emphasis may be less appealing; if you want a magical garden with tasks delegated to enchanted beings, it is the most specialized match in this list. Steam lists its release date as August 7, 2025. Its Steam page has the publisher’s game description.
Compared with Wylde Flowers, Ritual of Raven puts the garden’s magical operation more squarely in focus; the supplied material does not establish the same emphasis on character relationships or English voice acting. Choose based on whether you want a relationship-led story or a garden built around rituals and automation.
Which game is best for woodland folklore and a moving cottage?
REKA — best folklore and cottage-building alternative
In REKA, you forage, take on quests, study under Baba Jaga and customize a moving home with chicken legs. The unusual cottage makes this the standout pick for players drawn to folklore and a personal home that is more than a stationary farmstead. It is also a more exploratory and atmospheric alternative than a straightforward school-life sim.
Do not mistake the witchy setting for an assurance of uniformly gentle comfort: the setting can turn dark. More importantly, REKA is in Early Access. Its Steam page says it is playable now but not complete. An older developer projection on that page mentioned a possible 2025 version 1.0; that is not a current release promise, so buyers should rely on the present Early Access status instead. Before deciding, read the Steam Early Access description and consider whether an unfinished game is acceptable to you.

Which farm sim combines magic with romance and village life?
Fields of Mistria — best larger farm-and-romance loop
Fields of Mistria is a broader farm sim: its central activities include rebuilding a village, farming, mining, developing relationships and unlocking magic that helps with farming and adventures. That makes it a good choice if you want a substantial village-and-farm routine with magic as one of its systems. It is not specifically about enrolling in a witch college, so it is a systems comparison to Witchbrook, rather than a close match for its school premise.
NPC Studio’s Steam description identifies 12 marriage candidates and more than 30 villagers. Those numbers may help if relationship options and a populated community are a priority, but they do not mean the game has 12 romanceable characters in the same sense as Witchbrook’s announced cast or that every villager is a marriage candidate. Steam lists August 5, 2026 as the release date and August 5, 2024 as the start of Early Access. Its Steam page provides the game description and dates.
Choose it when the appeal is the long-running work of repairing a community and tending a farm, with relationship development and useful magic alongside it. Choose a more directly witch-centered game if you want witchcraft to define the protagonist’s role or the whole premise.

Is there a cozy supernatural farming game with romance?
Moonlight Peaks — best for supernatural farming and romance
Moonlight Peaks brings together farming, spells, potions, mystical crops and relationships with witches and other supernatural residents. The key qualification is the protagonist: you play a vampire, not an apprentice witch. That makes it relevant to someone searching for cozy supernatural life-sim activities, but a less direct fit for someone specifically looking to attend a witch college or play as a witch-in-training.
Steam lists July 6, 2026 as its release date. The available facts establish its supernatural cast and farming-and-magic ingredients, but do not establish that it has the same kind of apprentice progression as Little Witch in the Woods or the coven-centered story of Wylde Flowers. Use the Steam listing to check its current description before buying.
This is the pick for players who are comfortable with a vampire lead and want a farming life sim populated by supernatural characters. If the identity of the playable character matters more than the shared cozy activities, choose one of the witch-led games instead.

Which game offers a shorter, dialogue-led witch story?
Witchy Life Story — best compact story
Witchy Life Story is built around a two-week premise: you grow ingredients for spells, answer small magical requests, perform tarot readings and help prepare a village harvest festival. Its structure is more compact and dialogue-led than a broad sandbox, making it a natural choice if you want a focused witch story rather than a large farming loop or open-ended exploration.
Recommended Free Tools
The tradeoff is scope. The activities described for the game support a contained narrative centered on a village and festival, not a long-form college routine or an expansive farm sim. Steam lists September 30, 2022 as its release date. The Steam page describes its premise and activities.
Choose it when you value a defined story and dialogue over building a large farm or navigating a wide wilderness. For a more open-ended set of community and farming systems, Fields of Mistria is the alternative; for a compact witch-centered premise, this is the more focused option.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which game is about flying a broom rather than farming?
Mika and the Witch’s Mountain — best broom-flying adventure
Mika and the Witch’s Mountain is a delivery-and-exploration adventure. You fly around a small island on a magic broom, deliver parcels and build relationships with locals. It brings the movement and flying side of a witch story to the foreground, rather than asking you to focus on a farm, school schedule or expansive romance system.
That difference is useful when deciding: the game is not a college sim, a romance-focused game or a broad farming sim. Its fit is the broom-flying and exploration fantasy. Steam lists January 22, 2025 as its release date; see the Steam listing for its current details.
Choose it if flying a broom and making deliveries sounds more appealing than potion crafting or tending crops. If you want a game where the main character is explicitly learning witchcraft, Little Witch in the Woods is the more suitable match.

How should you choose between these games?
Start with the activity you most want to do, rather than choosing by the word “witch” alone. These games occupy different corners of the cozy-magic space:
- For an apprentice learning through exploration and potions: choose Little Witch in the Woods.
- For a coven, farming and character stories: choose Wylde Flowers.
- For enchanted helpers and garden automation: choose Ritual of Raven.
- For Baba Jaga folklore and a walking cottage: consider REKA, accepting that it remains unfinished Early Access.
- For a broad farm-and-village loop with magic: choose Fields of Mistria.
- For supernatural farming when a vampire protagonist is fine: consider Moonlight Peaks.
- For a compact, dialogue-led witch story: choose Witchy Life Story.
- For broom travel and parcel deliveries: choose Mika and the Witch’s Mountain.
There is no evidence here to rank the alternatives by storefront review percentages, and those scores can change over time. The recommendations are based on the described premise and activities, not a quality verdict from personal testing. For the closest match to Witchbrook’s apprentice identity, start with Little Witch in the Woods; for its social and coven side, start with Wylde Flowers. A reader focused on garden systems, folklore, broad farming, a short story or broom flight has a more specific match among the remaining picks.
How were these games selected?
The selection focuses on released or currently playable Steam games that have a meaningful connection to the announced Witchbrook premise: witchcraft, magic, supernatural life, farming, relationships, home-making or exploration. The ranking reflects how directly each game serves the use case in its label, not a universal quality score. A witch apprentice story ranks differently for someone seeking a coven narrative or automated gardening.
