The 64-core Intel Xeon Platinum 8592+ is an Emerald Rapids processor; the 64-core Xeon 6776P is a Granite Rapids P-core processor from Xeon 6. Granite Rapids offers a newer design and, on the 6776P, a larger listed cache, but the available evidence does not establish a single percentage by which this exact 64-core model is faster. The answer depends on workload, memory setup, software and platform configuration.

Which processors are being compared?

Emerald Rapids is Intel’s codename for 5th Gen Xeon Scalable. Granite Rapids is the P-core branch of Xeon 6. The matching 64-core parts for this comparison are the Xeon Platinum 8592+ and Xeon 6776P, respectively—not the 128-core Xeon 6980P that appears in some Granite Rapids reviews.

Specification Xeon Platinum 8592+ (Emerald Rapids) Xeon 6776P (Granite Rapids)
Cores 64 (Intel performance-data configuration) 64 (Intel ARK listing)
Base and maximum turbo frequency Not stated in the cited Intel performance data. 2.3 GHz base; up to 3.9 GHz turbo (Intel ARK listing).
Cache Not stated in the cited Intel performance data. 336 MB (Intel ARK listing).
TDP 350 W in Intel’s cited configuration. 350 W (Intel ARK listing).
Memory example or options Intel’s cited AI measurements used 1,024 GB of DDR5-5600; this is a test configuration, not a universal system specification. Memory options are not stated in the cited Intel ARK listing.

The table reflects what Intel’s cited performance data and current catalog listings establish; it is not a controlled benchmark comparison. In particular, a test system’s installed memory should not be mistaken for a processor’s maximum supported capacity.

How much faster is Granite Rapids?

There is no substantiated universal uplift for the 64-core 6776P over the 64-core 8592+ in the cited material. Intel’s highlighted figure—“up to 1.76x higher query throughput”—is for a specific IBM Db2 BDI test using a Xeon 6787P, not the 6776P, and compares it with a 4th Gen Xeon Platinum 8480+ baseline. Intel specifies that baseline as two 8480+ processors, 56 cores, 350 W TDP and DDR5-4800 memory; the test also used particular software and BIOS versions. The available description does not name those versions or provide a matching 8592+ result. Treat the figure as a vendor result for that workload and setup, not as a 6776P-versus-8592+ generational gain.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Independent testing offers useful context but does not fill that exact comparison gap. In a September 24, 2024 Linux review, Phoronix found the 128-core Xeon 6980P substantially faster than Intel’s 64-core Xeon Platinum 8592+ across the workloads it tested. In RELION, a dual-6980P system matched dual AMD EPYC 9684X performance; in LULESH, the lead over Emerald Rapids widened. Those are results for the tested systems and applications, and the 6980P has twice the core count of the 8592+. They do not predict the performance difference between the two 64-core CPUs here.

Why results can change from one server to another

Processor generation is only one part of a server’s performance. A comparison is most useful when it reflects the actual job and the whole system, rather than a headline number from a different configuration.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • Workload and objective: Database query throughput, virtualization density, HPC runtime, AI inference or training, and media or network processing stress different parts of a CPU. Throughput gains also do not necessarily mean lower response time or better tail latency.
  • Memory configuration: Memory type, speed, capacity and channel population affect bandwidth and latency. Intel lists the 6980P with DDR5-6400 and MRDIMM-8800 support, but those figures are not specifications for the 6776P. A result using standard DDR5 should not be assumed to predict a system configured with MRDIMMs.
  • Software stack: BIOS, compiler, libraries and workload-specific optimizations can change results. Intel AMX and AVX-512 support matter only when the relevant software uses them effectively; the cited material does not establish a universal advantage for either instruction set across applications.
  • Socket count and I/O: One- and two-socket systems differ in compute resources, memory topology and scaling behavior. Intel’s 2025 Granite Rapids brief reports 136 PCIe lanes per socket for the single-socket variant; that is a platform-specific detail, not a blanket figure for every Xeon 6 configuration.
  • Power and operating conditions: Both 64-core CPUs in the table carry a 350 W TDP listing or cited configuration. Sustained power, cooling capacity, rack density and system limits affect real operating cost and performance. TDP alone does not establish actual power consumption under a particular workload.

Which 64-core Xeon should you choose?

Choose the 6776P when the platform and workload justify the change

The 6776P is the Granite Rapids 64-core option in this comparison. Its listed 336 MB cache and newer generation make it a candidate where a workload can benefit from the newer design, and where the server can provide the required platform, memory and cooling. Intel positions Xeon 6 P-core processors for high-core, performance-sensitive and general-purpose compute workloads, as well as storage, wireless core, networking and CDN uses. That positioning is not a guarantee that every such workload will improve by the same amount.

Keep or select the 8592+ when a measured migration case is absent

If an existing Emerald Rapids system meets its performance and capacity targets, the evidence here alone does not justify replacing it. For a new build, compare complete server configurations and benchmark the applications that matter; the available figures do not establish the 6776P’s price, stock, platform cost or application-specific advantage over the 8592+.

Is Xeon 6 a drop-in upgrade from Emerald Rapids?

Do not assume so. Processor compatibility depends on the server platform, motherboard, BIOS, memory support and system design. The cited material does not establish that the 6776P can be installed in a system built for the 8592+, nor does it give a compatibility path for a particular server. Confirm support with the server or motherboard vendor before planning a CPU-only upgrade.

For a defensible buying or upgrade decision, compare systems running the same application version and workload, with documented socket count, memory population and speed, BIOS, compiler and libraries, accelerator use, and power limits. Measure both throughput and response-time behavior if latency matters, then include cooling, rack capacity and platform replacement in the cost calculation.
