A USB-C wall charger and cable help refill it in town; a solar charger or Apple Watch power bank is only worth packing for particular trips and device setups. You do not need all five: choose for your route, device mix, and tolerance for extra weight.
1. An Anker power bank sized for your trip
Capacity is a tradeoff between stored energy and pack weight. Anker recommends 10,000mAh as a balance for weekend trips and 20,000mAh or more for multi-day adventures. Those are manufacturer recommendations, not guaranteed charge counts: actual results vary with the phone or other device, its battery, and how you use it. Anker also notes that watt-hours are a clearer way to compare energy across different battery voltages, so do not treat every mAh figure as directly equivalent. Anker’s backpacking guide discusses these capacity choices.
Choose by days away and devices
- Short trip, phone only: A compact 10,000mAh-class bank may be a sensible starting point if its weight and output suit your needs.
- Longer stretch, or several devices: Consider 20,000mAh or more, then check the actual weight and whether its ports can charge your devices as needed.
- Camera, GPS unit, or lightweight laptop: Anker describes its Prime 27,650mAh Power Bank as an option for multiple or higher-draw devices. Check the current product specifications for output, ports, and mass before choosing it; a larger capacity is not automatically worth carrying.
Look for USB-C Power Delivery when you want fast charging for compatible modern devices, and enough simultaneous outputs if you expect to charge more than one gadget at a time. The connector alone does not establish charging speed or compatibility: confirm the specific bank’s output and your device’s requirements.
2. A compact MagGo bank, if its charging method fits
Anker presents its MagGo Power Bank as a compact 10,000mAh option with wireless charging. That can be convenient when the exact bank and phone are compatible, but wireless charging does not make compatibility universal. Confirm the precise MagGo model’s supported devices, charging method, and specifications before buying. For backpacking, compare its mass and capacity with a conventional bank rather than assuming the compact form factor is the lightest choice. Anker’s guide describes this product as a compact option.

3. A USB-C wall charger for town stops
A wall charger is useful when your route includes a hostel, café, or other place with an outlet. It can recharge compatible devices and, depending on its output and the bank’s input specifications, the power bank as well. It does not add energy while you are away from mains power. Match its output and connector to the devices you carry and the bank you plan to recharge; Anker’s hiking guidance recommends USB-C Power Delivery for compatible modern devices. Anker’s wall-charger collection lists its charger options.
4. A compatible USB-C cable
Carry a cable that matches both the charger or power bank and the device you need to charge. USB-C at one end does not, by itself, guarantee a particular charging speed: check the cable and connected equipment for compatibility with the output you intend to use. A spare cable can be useful if a damaged or misplaced lead would leave an important device without a charging path, but choose one that fits your setup rather than packing several redundant cables. Anker’s cable collection includes cable options.

5. A solar charger, only when the route makes sense
Solar can provide a daytime top-up when conditions and exposure cooperate, but it is not a dependable substitute for planning enough stored power. Anker advises treating solar as a daytime top-up rather than a guaranteed overnight source. Cloud cover, shade, and where you can safely position a panel affect whether it is useful, so do not count on it to meet a fixed charging need. For a short trip with a suitable power bank, a panel may add weight without enough benefit; consider it only if your itinerary and expected conditions justify carrying one. Anker’s hiking advice discusses solar as an outdoor charging option: Anker UK hiking-charger guidance.

Anker also offers a MagGo Power Bank for Apple Watch. Treat it as a specialized option for someone carrying a compatible Apple Watch and wanting a dedicated way to charge it—not as a general backpacking essential. Verify compatibility with the exact model of watch and bank. If your trip does not include that device, this is not a reason to add another battery to your pack. Check weight, protection, and storage before you pack
- Compare actual mass with capacity: Anker UK suggests choosing a hiking charger under about 500–600g where possible. This is the manufacturer’s guidance, not a universal backpacking standard; judge the tradeoff against your route and charging needs. Anker UK hiking-charger guidance
- Check protection claims model by model: Anker recommends considering a rugged housing or an IP rating for outdoor use. Do not assume every Anker bank is waterproof, or that an IP rating means it is safe to leave exposed. Protect electronics from rain and spills in a dry bag or other suitable storage. Anker’s backpacking guide and Anker UK’s hiking guidance cover outdoor considerations.
- Think about where it rides: A battery that fits a pocket or an accessible pack compartment may be easier to reach than one buried under other gear. Secure it and its cable against moisture and damage.
- Keep the product scale appropriate: Anker SOLIX portable power stations are framed for camping, road trips, and base camps. Their capacity and appliance-powering role are a different scale from a pocket power bank, making them a poor default for weight-sensitive backpacking. Anker’s SOLIX portable power-station collection shows that separate category.
A simple way to choose
- Count the days between outlets and identify which devices must remain charged.
- Choose a capacity range as a starting point—Anker suggests 10,000mAh for weekend trips and 20,000mAh or more for multi-day trips—then check the bank’s real weight and output.
- Match ports and charging standards to your devices, including whether you need USB-C Power Delivery or multiple outputs.
- Add only the supporting gear you will use: a wall charger for outlet stops, the right cable for your devices, and a solar option only if daytime conditions and your route make it worthwhile.
- Verify the exact model’s specifications and protection claims before purchase; Anker’s guidance is manufacturer-authored, not independent comparative testing.
