Grant Sinclair, nephew of ZX Spectrum creator Clive Sinclair, designed GamerCard: a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W handheld built as a thin stack of circuit boards. Its unusual card-like shape and support for PICO-8 make it interesting to retro-game fans and makers, but flat controls, limited battery life and a currently listed £149 price make it a niche choice rather than an obvious everyday handheld.
What is GamerCard?
GamerCard is a small Linux-based gaming computer designed by Grant Sinclair. The connection to the ZX Spectrum is family and inspiration, not a product revival: GamerCard is not a new ZX Spectrum or a remake of Clive Sinclair’s computer. The manufacturer describes it as a ready-to-play handheld “engineered in the shape and size of a retail gift card” and made from stacked PCBs (Grant Sinclair’s product page).
That construction is the central idea. Instead of enclosing conventional handheld components in a thick plastic shell, GamerCard puts its electronics in a sealed, flat PCB sandwich. Its maker says it is over 80% smaller and lighter than market-leading handhelds, but does not state a comparison method on the product page; treat that as a marketing claim, not an independently measured comparison.

The official product page currently identifies the computer as a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W with RP3A0. Public descriptions of the processor have varied, so the current maker specification is the clearest source for the configuration being sold (GamerCard hardware specifications).
What games and software can it run?
Included games depend on the bundle
The 32 GB and 128 GB microSD bundles are described by the maker as including Raspberry Pi OS and six games. Named examples include Bloo Kid 2, AstroBlaze DX and the Saboteur trilogy. The handheld-only option excludes a microSD card, so do not assume it includes the same installed software. A Pi Game App is described as forthcoming on the product site (GamerCard software information; storage configurations).

- Integrated Audio Features: The module includes an onboard speaker and an earphone jack, enabling users to enjoy classic game soundtracks and audio effects directly from the device.
Emulators and PICO-8
The manufacturer lists Recalbox, RetroPie and Lakka as compatible emulator apps, but they are not included. PICO-8, a fantasy console for creating, playing and sharing small retro-style games, is also supported but sold separately. The square screen is a natural fit for PICO-8’s native resolution. GamerCard is also positioned for tinkering and coding with environments including MicroPython, C, C++ and BASIC; classroom or educational outcomes have not been independently assessed.
What are the drawbacks?
In a hands-on review published September 24, 2026, Adam Devine found the low-profile controls less familiar and less precise for platform games than a raised D-pad. He also reported cramped hands during longer play, no dedicated volume buttons, and no 3.5 mm headphone jack. Bluetooth gamepad pairing was not functioning during that review’s test; that is a dated software observation and could change with updates (GamersExtra review by Adam Devine).

Devine reported roughly two hours of play with brightness set high in his own use. That is one reviewer’s observation, not a standardized battery test or a guaranteed runtime. The modest Pi hardware is aimed at lightweight software and retro titles, not current high-end games.

There is conflicting older price information. HotHardware reported £125 at launch-era availability in July 2025, while the September 2026 review describes a lower £99/$99 starting price. Those figures may refer to different dates or configurations; the available sources do not reconcile them. The maker currently lists £149.00, so use the live checkout price for the specific bundle rather than relying on past coverage.
The maker estimates that new orders may take approximately 8–10 weeks to ship, citing a global NAND memory shortage. This is a changeable estimate, not a delivery promise; destination eligibility, shipping charges and stock should be checked with the seller (GamerCard delivery information).

Who is GamerCard for?
- Consider it if you want an unusually thin Raspberry Pi handheld, enjoy tinkering with Linux or emulators, or want a portable device for PICO-8 creation and play.
- Look elsewhere if comfortable controls for long sessions, precise platforming, a headphone jack, simple appliance-like setup or extended battery life matter more than the flat form factor.
- Choose the bundle deliberately: the handheld-only configuration does not include a microSD card, while the 32 GB and 128 GB options are described as including Raspberry Pi OS and six games.
