Zapata Quantum announced on October 6, 2026, that it had joined the IBM Quantum Network, with plans to use IBM quantum computers alongside Zapata’s application-development expertise. The announcement describes a strategic relationship—not a named project or a completed customer application. It does not specify what the companies will build, when they will deliver it, who the customer will be, or the commercial terms.
What Zapata’s IBM Quantum Network membership means
IBM describes its Quantum Network as an ecosystem of academic institutions, industry clients, startups, and other partners working to advance quantum computing. IBM lists benefits such as events, communications, industry expertise, and tailored programming. Zapata’s announcement says network insights will help it find and develop potential applications using IBM quantum computers.
The membership is a strategic step toward exploring applications; it is not evidence that a new application is ready for business use. Zapata CEO Sumit Kapur framed the challenge as an “application gap”: progress in quantum hardware needs to be matched by work identifying, evaluating, and developing useful applications. That is the companies’ framing of the opportunity, not a demonstrated business outcome of this membership.
IBM says qualifying clients with Flex, Premium, or On-Prem contracts are added to the network, while startups can join through a Startup Program. The announcement does not say which route, contract, or hardware-access entitlements apply to Zapata. IBM’s general description therefore should not be read as disclosure of Zapata’s specific access terms.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What applications are the companies going to build?
The announcement does not name a new joint application, industry, customer, project schedule, or deliverable. It describes intent to use IBM systems and Zapata’s use-case discovery and application-development experience, without committing to a particular result.
Zapata says the relationship will also inform Quantum Pilot, its software for helping enterprises identify, prioritize, and develop applications as quantum hardware matures. Zapata describes the platform as hardware-agnostic. The announcement provides no independent performance data or evidence that Quantum Pilot has delivered a particular return on investment.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Jonny Olson, Zapata’s VP of Strategy and co-founder, said the membership would help identify opportunities for organizations that need fast systems and prepare them for the point when quantum computing gives them a return on investment. That is Olson’s expectation, not a reported result or guarantee.
Does the announcement mean quantum computers are useful for business now?
Not by itself. Joining a network and planning application work do not establish that a quantum computer has produced a commercial advantage for Zapata or its customers. The release warns that statements about future applications, benefits, and value are forward-looking; those outcomes may not materialize.

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The announcement points to earlier joint research as context, including work on potential KRAS inhibitors and variational quantum factoring on a superconducting processor. The KRAS paper, published in Nature Biotechnology on January 22, 2025, is titled “Quantum-computing-enhanced algorithm unveils potential KRAS inhibitors.” Its focus on potential inhibitors does not mean it produced an approved drug, a clinical result, or an application from the new network membership. Zapata’s release says the paper was selected as one of the journal’s Top 10 Articles of 2025; that selection claim is reported by Zapata.
How large is the IBM Quantum Network?
