Some YouTube users may be seeing the earlier mobile mini-player again, but a broad return is not confirmed. A May 2026 TechYorker search result described the classic design as returning for some accounts, though the page could not be verified; YouTube’s official help currently explains the desktop mini-player, not a mobile rollback. That distinction matters: there is no confirmed universal switch to restore the older mobile layout.
What “classic mini-player” means—and what is actually known
Here, “classic” means the earlier YouTube mobile-app layout: a small video window positioned above the app’s bottom navigation bar. The redesigned mobile player was described as a floating window that could be moved between corners. These descriptions concern the mobile app, not the desktop mini-player.
The current report has a narrow evidence base. A May 2026 TechYorker search result says the classic layout was returning for some accounts and calls availability inconsistent, but the page could not be checked. The reviewed sources contain no official YouTube announcement confirming a mobile rollback. Treat the claim as an unverified report, not a YouTube-wide change.
There was a separate report in November 2024: Android Authority said users reported the older bottom-positioned player returning after YouTube app version 19.45.36. The article used tentative wording. That historical account does not establish what any account sees now.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
How the two reported mobile layouts differ
| Aspect | Earlier “classic” mobile layout | Redesigned floating mobile layout |
|---|---|---|
| Placement | Small window above the app’s bottom bar, as described in Android Authority’s November 2024 report. | Floating window movable between corners, as described in the same report. |
| Browsing-area footprint | Current dimensions or measured space use: not stated (Android Authority, November 2024). | Current dimensions or measured space use: not stated (Android Authority, November 2024). |
| Moving or dismissing | Current controls and dismissal behavior: not stated (Android Authority, November 2024). | The report describes movement between corners; it does not establish current controls or dismissal behavior (Android Authority, November 2024). |
| Availability | Whether it is currently available by account, app version, operating system, or region: not established. | Whether it is currently available by account, app version, operating system, or region: not established. |
The evidence does not establish that one layout consistently takes up less screen space or is easier to control. A post asking, “Does anybody know why the mini player is suddenly gone?” captures a common kind of troubleshooting question, but one Reddit post does not show how widespread the issue is.
Can you restore the classic mobile mini-player?
No reviewed source documents a universal setting or procedure that restores the classic mobile layout. The reported return may be limited to some accounts, and the available sources do not verify how availability varies by app version, operating system, or region. If your player changed or disappeared, the evidence does not support promising that a particular setting, reinstall, or update will bring the old layout back.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What YouTube officially documents on desktop
YouTube Help documents a separate desktop feature: the mini-player lets a video keep playing while you browse YouTube. On a desktop watch page, right-click the video and select Miniplayer. You can pause or resume playback, load another video from Home, drag the player to any of the four corners, resize or dismiss it, and expand back to the watch page. YouTube says desktop miniplayer is unavailable for Shorts and videos marked made for kids. See YouTube Help: Use the Miniplayer.
Those desktop instructions are not a workaround for the mobile redesign, and they do not confirm that the classic mobile player has returned.

How strong is the preference for the old design?
In an Android Authority poll in 2024, 839 respondents voted: 75% preferred the old or classic version and 25% preferred the redesigned floating picture-in-picture version. This was a self-selected poll embedded by the publication, not a representative survey of YouTube users, so it indicates the preferences of those respondents only.
