Comments follow the settings on the underlying YouTube content, so availability can depend on the content owner’s controls as well as which surfaces YouTube has made available to your account.
What YouTube Music comments do
Comments let listeners join conversations about songs and podcasts inside the YouTube Music app. YouTube introduced the feature in 2023, describing it as a way to read and react to community discussion alongside music. The conversations mirror those on YouTube rather than forming a separate comment system for every music listing. YouTube’s announcement explains the original feature.

You can post a comment, like or dislike another comment, and reply in a threaded conversation. Authors can edit or delete their own comments. YouTube Music Help describes these controls and the limits that can apply.
How to comment on a song in YouTube Music
- Open the song, video, or podcast in the YouTube Music app.
- Look for its comments section. It appears only when comments are available for that content.
- Write and post your comment. To join an existing discussion, use the reply control beneath a comment; replies appear in a thread.
- Use the reaction controls to like or dislike comments. To change a comment you wrote, edit or delete it.
The precise placement of the comments control can vary by content and app surface. YouTube’s help documentation describes the feature, but does not provide a single screen layout applicable to every item.

Why comments appear on some songs but not others
The most direct reason is the source content’s comment settings. YouTube Music comments mirror YouTube conversations, so a content owner may disable comments or restrict them to subscribers or members. In those cases, the comment area may be unavailable or limited even if you can listen to the song.
There is also a difference between content eligibility and rollout. YouTube’s help information explains how comments and owner controls work, but does not publish a complete country-, account-, or app-version rollout schedule for every comment surface. Seeing comments on one item but not another does not, by itself, establish that your account lacks the feature.

Are comments available on albums and playlists?
YouTube said in August 2025 that it planned to let fans share comments directly on albums and playlists. In April 2026, Android Authority reported seeing a comment icon beside the play button on album pages, while describing song and podcast comments as already available. That report is evidence of album comments appearing in use, not a published universal launch schedule. YouTube’s 2025 announcement covers the roadmap; Android Authority’s April 2026 report describes the album surface it observed.
The available information does not establish that playlist comments have rolled out broadly, nor does it identify which countries or accounts have album comments. Check the relevant album or playlist in your app rather than assuming every page has a comment section.

Visibility, moderation, and restrictions
Comments on public videos are publicly visible. They are subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines and moderation: comments may be removed, and repeated violations can lead to a warning or a pause on commenting for up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help. Owner settings can also restrict participation to subscribers or members. These are platform and content controls, not a separate YouTube Music-only discussion policy.
