Restream can deliver your broadcast to YouTube, but you set up the redirect in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room—not in Restream. Connect and schedule the YouTube event in Restream, then edit the source stream in YouTube Studio, choose an eligible Premiere or live stream under Redirect, and confirm the destination and permissions before going live.
What Restream does—and what YouTube does
Restream handles sending your broadcast to YouTube and, depending on your chosen workflow, creating or selecting the YouTube event. YouTube handles Live Redirect: the setting that sends viewers from the source stream to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream after the source ends. YouTube describes the behavior this way: “Once your live stream ends, autoplay will move your viewers to the Premiere or live stream of your choice.”
So there is no Restream redirect destination to configure. Use Restream for delivery and event management; use YouTube Studio or Live Control Room for the redirect destination.
Set up Live Redirect while streaming through Restream
- Connect the YouTube channel in Restream. Open Channels, choose Add New, select YouTube, authorize the account, and return to Restream. Restream says the authorized account must be the channel owner; a manager or editor account is not sufficient.
- Enable YouTube live streaming. If this is the first time the channel is enabled for live streaming, Restream says phone verification is required and activation takes 24 hours. Allow for that wait before scheduling a broadcast.
- Create or select the YouTube event in Restream. Restream supports event workflows using Studio, RTMP, a video file, or a playlist, and documents selecting an existing scheduled YouTube event from an event dropdown. Pick the event that will be the source stream for the redirect.
- Open the source event in YouTube Studio. Go to Content, select the Live tab, and edit the source video.
- Choose the destination. In the source video’s Customization settings, select Add under Redirect. Choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream. YouTube says a confirmation appears when the source stream ends and viewers will be redirected.
- Verify the target and permissions before going live. Set up the Premiere or confirm the intended live stream is available. YouTube recommends telling viewers to wait a few seconds after the source ends while their screens reload.
- End the event cleanly. Check the event’s auto-stop behavior in Restream. If auto-stop is disabled for an existing YouTube event, Restream says you must click End Live on YouTube after stopping the Restream stream.
Eligibility, permissions, and destination limits
The sending channel must qualify
YouTube’s current Help guidance says the channel sending viewers must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. If the Redirect option is unavailable, check these channel requirements first.

The receiving channel controls who can redirect to it
If the target is another channel’s live stream, that channel must allow redirects from your channel. YouTube’s receiving controls can allow subscribed channels, all channels, or a manually approved list. A manual allowlist can contain up to 100 channels. The “all channels” setting cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel or manual-list options.
The target must be available
The selected destination must be an eligible, available live stream or Premiere and must meet the receiving channel’s permission settings. TeamYouTube’s announcement describes eligible choices as active or upcoming live streams and upcoming Premieres that match those permissions. If there is no matching scheduled or live target, or the receiving channel has not permitted your channel, the target may not appear in the selection list.

Restream and YouTube event controls to check
- Channel authorization: Restream’s connection step requires the YouTube channel owner’s account, not a manager or editor’s account.
- Source event selection: Confirm that the broadcast is connected to the intended scheduled YouTube event; selecting an event in Restream does not itself configure Live Redirect.
- Auto-stop: If it is disabled on an existing event, plan to end the stream in YouTube after stopping it in Restream.
- Archive: Restream says YouTube has no stream duration limit, but archives only streams under 12 hours. This is an archive constraint, not a Live Redirect eligibility rule.
Why you may not see a redirect option or destination
- No Redirect setting on the source: Confirm that you edited the correct video under Content → Live in YouTube Studio and opened Customization. Redirect selection is a YouTube control, not a Restream setting.
- Your channel does not qualify: Verify the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- Another channel’s stream is missing: Ask the recipient to check its redirect permissions. It must allow your channel, and the target must be an eligible active or upcoming live stream or Premiere.
- The source event is not the one you intend: Check the event selected in Restream against the source video you edited in YouTube Studio.
- The destination was not ready: Create or schedule the Premiere or confirm the target live stream before configuring the handoff. Recheck availability and permissions before going live.
- The source stopped but the YouTube event remains live: If Restream auto-stop is disabled, end the event with End Live in YouTube.

Live Redirect is a YouTube handoff setting; it does not replace a live source stream.
