To send a YouTube Live Redirect, a creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Receiving a redirect is different: the destination channel must allow the sender through its redirect permissions. YouTube’s general livestream requirements—channel verification and no live streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days—are separate from the Live Redirect sender threshold.
Who can use Live Redirect?
Requirements for sending viewers
YouTube’s current Help page says creators sending a redirect need more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Exactly 1,000 subscribers does not meet the stated “more than 1,000” threshold. These are feature-specific requirements for sending viewers; they do not describe who may receive a redirect.
Separate requirements for livestreaming
To livestream generally, YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The person livestreaming must also be at least 16 years old. These rules do not replace the separate Live Redirect sender requirements.
Horizontal versus vertical streams
YouTube’s live-streaming feature comparison lists Live Redirect as available for horizontal live streams and unavailable in the vertical live feed. This distinction applies to the configurations described in that comparison; it should not be read as a statement about every possible stream setup.

Can I redirect viewers to another channel’s live stream?
Yes. A creator can send viewers to a Premiere or to another channel’s live stream. For a cross-channel destination, that recipient channel must allow the sender to redirect viewers to it. YouTube’s Help page describes the feature as a way to send viewers to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
How do I allow other creators to Live Redirect to my channel?
The recipient channel controls which creators may redirect to its content in YouTube Studio. You can permit channels you subscribe to, allow all channels, or manually approve specific channels. YouTube says the manual approval list can contain up to 100 channels.

- Channels you subscribe to: Those channels may redirect to you. YouTube says this is the default unless your subscriptions are private.
- All channels: Any channel may redirect to your content. This option cannot be combined with the subscription-based setting or the manual approval list.
- Specific approved channels: Add channels individually to the approval list, up to YouTube’s stated limit of 100. This option can be combined with the subscription-based setting.
Use the current redirect permissions controls in YouTube Studio to review or change who can send viewers to your channel; YouTube’s documentation may update its labels or navigation over time.
How do I redirect my live stream viewers?
- Open YouTube Studio. Go to Content > Live.
- Edit the source event. Select the live stream whose viewers you want to redirect.
- Open Customization. In the stream’s settings, choose the Customization tab.
- Add a destination. Under Redirect, choose Add.
- Select the destination. Choose a Premiere or a permitted channel’s live stream, then save the event settings.
YouTube also provides a route for configuring a Premiere to redirect viewers. Check the destination and the recipient’s permissions before the event; a channel that has not allowed the sender will not be an available cross-channel destination.

What happens when the source stream ends?
YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the selected Premiere or live stream when the source ends. In a TeamYouTube announcement dated May 3, 2022, YouTube noted that viewers with autoplay disabled may need to press play to continue to the destination. Because that autoplay detail comes from the dated announcement, viewer behavior may vary with current settings and product changes.
How to make a redirect handoff smoother
- Set up the Premiere before setting up the livestream, as YouTube recommends.
- Tell viewers to wait a few seconds when the source stream ends so their screens can reload.
- Pin a live-chat message on the Premiere page that directs viewers to the live stream.
- Allow other streamers to redirect to your channel if you want to receive cross-channel audiences.
