Your PC does not need to stay on for a continuous YouTube stream if a cloud encoder sends prerecorded video to YouTube. For a camera, event, or other genuinely live production, however, a live source and encoder must still capture and deliver the feed from somewhere.
A cloud encoder is the straightforward option for looping prerecorded material. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streams; check the provider’s current features, limits, and pricing before choosing one.
Choose an approach that fits your source

A prerecorded playlist is not a substitute for a live camera or event. If the broadcast must show something happening in real time, that source still needs to be captured and sent to YouTube by an operating device or suitable production system.
How to set up a cloud stream
- Enable live streaming on your channel. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. In the Live Control Room, obtain the ingest details needed by your encoder, such as the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key secret: it authorizes a feed to your stream.
- Choose a compatible cloud encoder. Check that it supports your source format, YouTube workflow, and the playlist or schedule behavior you require. YouTube’s verified encoders page lists Gyre as a cloud option for 24/7 prerecorded streaming.
- Upload or select your media and configure playback. Use only content you have the rights to broadcast. Provider controls differ, so verify how looping, scheduling, and broadcast rotation work.
- Start the broadcast and verify it in YouTube. Check the Live Control Room preview and the public watch page. Monitor the stream, and arrange a local recording or archive plan if you need a replay.
Once the cloud encoder is sending the feed, your home computer and home upload connection are no longer in the broadcast path. The cloud provider, its network, YouTube ingest, and your channel configuration are still dependencies; the setup does not guarantee zero interruptions or automatic recovery.

Plan for archives and broadcast rotation
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube Help states, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast as a complete replay; make a local archive if preserving the content matters.
YouTube’s API documentation describes a persistent live-stream resource separately from live broadcasts, and gives a 24/7 feed as an example where a separate broadcast can be started while the feed continues. This makes broadcast rotation a possible technical pattern, but whether and how it works depends on the encoder and channel setup.

Rights and monetization
YouTube’s livestream terms require providers to have the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including music licensing rights. Clear rights for every video, song, and other element before broadcasting; material being publicly available does not make it safe to loop.
Continuous streaming does not guarantee monetization. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams and says monetized material should be original and authentic. Its July 15, 2025 policy clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and states that repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible.

FAQ
Can I run a YouTube livestream while my computer is off?
Yes, if a cloud encoder is sending the feed. This works for prerecorded video or playlists; it does not remove the need to capture a genuinely live camera or event somewhere.
How do I connect a cloud encoder to YouTube?
Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then enter the ingest details requested by your encoder. Keep the stream key private because it authorizes a feed to your stream.

Will YouTube save a replay of a 24/7 stream?
Not necessarily. YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Plan a local archive or a suitable broadcast-rotation setup if you need to preserve replays.
Can I loop music or other content I do not own?
Only if you have the necessary rights, including applicable music licenses. YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary rights for broadcast content.

Does a cloud encoder guarantee the stream will never go offline?
No. The encoder provider, its network, YouTube ingest, and channel configuration can all affect availability. The research does not independently establish any provider’s uptime or performance.
