Yahoo Scout’s MyScout is a user-arranged homepage of customizable tiles; Google Discover is an automatically surfaced feed of updates for your interests. You can shape MyScout by choosing and ordering tiles, while Discover offers topic and source feedback and uses information from Google products, account settings, and—in some cases—location. Neither service’s published descriptions establish that its recommendations are more accurate or relevant than the other’s.
How are Yahoo Scout and Google Discover different?
The main difference is how each presents personalized content. MyScout, a homepage within Yahoo Scout, lets users add and reorder tiles. A tile can be based on a search query or connected Yahoo account content. Discover is a feed intended to show updates about interests without a search first.
| Comparison | Yahoo Scout / MyScout | Google Discover |
|---|---|---|
| Core format | Customizable homepage with user-added tiles. | Feed of updates for interests, surfaced without first searching. |
| How you steer it | Add and reorder tiles; use search queries or Yahoo account content. | Follow or unfollow topics, mark topics not interesting, hide sources, and manage personalization settings. Google announced natural-language tuning as forthcoming in August 2026; availability to all users is not established. |
| Documented content and signals | Search-query results and Yahoo services such as Mail, Finance, News, Sports, and Games; Yahoo also lists weather and trending news. | Device and other Google-product information, account data and settings, and location-related information. |
| Update timing | Yahoo says some tiles update in real time, others through the day, and others regularly. | The cited help page does not state a universal refresh interval. |
| Availability | Yahoo described MyScout as a beta for U.S. users in March 2026. Its help description also refers to Scout on desktop and mobile web. | Discover can appear in the Google app, on google.com on Android, and on some device home screens. Features vary by language, country, and device. |
| Recommendation quality comparison | No head-to-head quality result is established by the cited product description. | No head-to-head quality result is established by the cited product description. |
These are differences in documented design and controls—not evidence that either service is better at choosing stories. Yahoo’s MyScout announcement describes the Yahoo product; Google’s Discover Help page describes Discover and its controls.
What is MyScout on Yahoo?
Yahoo announced MyScout on March 11, 2026 as a personalized homepage inside Yahoo Scout. Rather than relying only on a stream of recommendations, the page is organized around tiles a user selects and arranges. Yahoo lists examples including news topics, favorite sports teams, stock watchlists, weather, shopping comparisons, inbox snapshots, and games. Tiles may draw on content connected to Yahoo services, including Mail, Sports, and Finance.

Yahoo’s announcement says MyScout adapts to users’ searches and integrates Yahoo products. Its help description says users can add up to 20 custom tiles from search queries; because Yahoo’s help text may change, check the current product for the applicable limit. The company describes different update patterns by tile type: watchlist prices may update in real time; email, weather, sports scores, and trending news update throughout the day; and product recommendations, horoscopes, and games refresh regularly. These descriptions do not establish that every tile is ranked by one common recommendation system.
Yahoo’s March 2026 announcement described MyScout as a beta for U.S. users at Scout.com and in the Yahoo Search app. Availability may have changed since then, so check the current service and your account rather than assuming access in another region.

How does Google Discover choose and let you shape its feed?
Google describes Discover as updates for interests—such as a favorite sports team or news site—that appear without searching for them. The help page says Discover may use information from your device and other Google products, along with data and settings in your Google Account. Examples include Search Services History, personalized recommendations, app and contact information, and Location History. Some updates may be based on home location; when that is unavailable, Google says it may estimate location using other information, such as an IP address.
Google documents controls to follow or unfollow topics, mark a topic as not interesting, hide a source, restore topics or sources, and turn personalized recommendations off. Exact options can vary: Google cautions that features may not be available in every language, country, or region and says the settings described on its help page are being updated.

On August 20, 2026, Google Search Ecosystem General Manager Mrinalini Loew announced that natural-language controls for telling Discover what topics or links to show more or less of were coming. The announcement described those controls as forthcoming, so it does not establish that they are available to every user. Google also discussed Preferred Sources for Search and AI results; that is separate from the core Discover feed.
Which service gives you more control over the homepage?
MyScout’s documented control is primarily about the page’s contents and layout: users add and reorder tiles, including tiles based on queries or Yahoo account services. Discover’s documented controls focus on steering the feed—following interests, giving feedback on topics and sources, and managing personalization settings. The distinction is useful if you prefer to assemble a homepage from chosen modules or would rather respond to items in an automatically surfaced feed.

Yahoo’s March 2026 announcement also cited company-reported scale figures: 500 million user profiles, more than 1 billion entities in its knowledge graph, and 18 trillion consumer events annually across Yahoo, all based on Yahoo internal data reported in 2026. It cited Comscore Media Metrix Multi-Platform for an average monthly reach of 90 percent of U.S. internet users from January through December 2025, and a February 2026 Morning Consult survey in which over 75% of U.S. adults said it was important for AI search tools to show original sources. These figures describe Yahoo’s stated scale and a survey about source display preferences; they do not measure MyScout recommendation quality.

Not from the published descriptions cited here. They explain product features, inputs, and user controls, but do not provide a comparable assessment of accuracy, relevance, diversity, or user satisfaction—or the complete ranking algorithms and relative weight of their signals. A fair choice therefore depends on the experience you want: a tile-based, user-arranged Yahoo homepage or Google’s interest feed and its available topic and source controls.
